In the Women’s 50m Freestyle at the Singapura Finance 47th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships (SNAG), Nur Marina Chan Shi Min Alif Abdullah and Quah Ting Wen met the Rio Olympics ‘B’ timings yesterday.

She was the 3rd best Singaporean to finish
Marina, touching home right on the ‘B’ qualifying mark of 26.17seconds, was the 3rd best Singaporean to complete the race, while Ting Wen set a new meet record of 25.54 seconds.
Said Marina, who is a scion of the famous Chan swimming family, “I didn’t really have big expectations because I just finished my A Levels last year and took a long break from swimming. Getting back in shape was going to take a long time so I am really happy how things turned out this week.”
She added, “Tomorrow I have the 100 Free which I am very excited for. I’m definitely looking to achieve a personal best time and qualify for the Rio Olympics.”
Was slightly disappointed by her swim
Ting Wen, on the other hand, was disappointed at having narrowly missed out on the ‘A’ qualifying mark.
She said, “I didn’t have a very good start in the 50m Free. The race was fine but I messed up at the dive. I think I could have come close to 25.3 seconds. It’s been a long day. I’ve tried to do best times but this year being the Olympic year, it’s also trying to make the team and make the cut. I was trying to make the ‘A’ cut but I wasn’t expecting to although I know I have it in me.”
Disappointment for Dylan Khoo
Dylan Khoo finished second behind Quah Zheng Wen (in photo) in the Men’s 100m butterfly. Dylan had narrowly missed out on the Olympic “B” qualifying time.
In the Men’s 100m Butterfly, Dylan Khoo narrowly missed out on the Olympic ‘B’ qualifying time – when he touched home in a new meet record of 54.20 seconds for the 15 to 17 year olds category.
He finished second behind Quah Zheng Wen, who has already met the ‘A’ requirements for the event.
National Coach Sergio Lopez was quite pleased with his charges times overall. He said, “I think there were some pretty good swims today. Overall I am happy with everyone’s performance but I think Amanda Lim and Ting Wen should have made the ‘A’ cuts for the 50m Free. Amanda said her finish wasn’t good at the end, and as for Ting, I was expecting a 58.7 or 58.6 but she swam her hardest out there.”
SNAG Concludes Today
Today the SNAG concludes at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, Singapore Sports Hub, with the Men’s and Women’s 100metre backstroke, the 100m Freestyle and 400m Individual Medley events along with the Men’s and Women’s 800meter and1,500meter Freestyle events.
