If you are looking for a healthy type of bread to suit your needs, then Sunshine’s newly released Sunshine Smart-CarbTM Low Glycemic Index (G.I.) Bread bread could be what you want.
G.I. measures the rate that the body breaks down carbs
The G.I. measures the rate at which the body breaks down carbohydrates, releases glucose into the bloodstream and is rated on a scale from 1 to 100. The lower the GI, the slower the body takes to break down the carbs, which means that the sugar release is slower and more controlled, thus keeping hunger levels at bay and you will be much less likely to succumb to those mid-morning or mid-afternoon snacking pangs.
Low G.I. food can also lower blood sugar levels – in fact according to research conducted by the British Journal of Nutrition (2009), just replacing a single item in your diet with a lower GI substitute can contribute a lot in terms of regulating the blood sugar levels in the body.
Serves up whole grains with beta-glucans with a low G.I. reading
A smarter choice of bread that serves up the goodness of whole grains with beta-glucans with a low G.I. reading, this is a bread that is marketed as being friendly to the heart and the waistline and was developed by Sunshine Bakeries in collaboration with the Glycemic Index Research Unit at Temasek Polytechnic.
Said Dr. Andy Adhiwana, Executive Director of Auric Pacific Group Limited, of which the Sunshine Bakeries group is managed under, “At Sunshine Bakeries, we understand that Singapore is both a food loving and health conscious society. We remain committed to our goal of serving a healthier nation through our range of tasty innovations.”
He continued, “The new Sunshine Smart-CarbTM Low G.I. Bread is a tribute to Sunshine’s dedication in providing Singaporeans with delicious and healthier bread options that meets the Health Promotion Board’s recommended 2 to 3 servings of whole grains daily.”
Low G.I. reading of 37
The Sunshine Smart-CarbTM Low G.I. Bread has a G.I. reading of 37 and is a Healthier Choice Product as certified by the Health Promotion Board Singapore. As well, the bread also meets the US Whole Grain Council’s Wholegrain Requirements and exceeds 21 grams of whole grains per serving.
Added Cynthia Harriman, Director, Food and Nutrition, US Whole Grains Council “Each serving of the latest Sunshine Smart-CarbTM Low G.I. Bread satisfies 43 per cent of daily requirements for whole grains thus making it the smarter choice for anyone who wants to lead a healthy lifestyle through whole grains.”
What does the bread taste like?
Thanks to Sunshine Bakeries, I had the chance to try out a loaf of the Sunshine Smart-CarbTM Low G.I. Bread for myself.
Due to the whole grains present, the bread has a rough and grainy texture. However it is not as chewy as some other whole grain breads though, as this one has a semi-soft feeling in the mouth. The presence of the grains give the bread plenty of flavour. Though I had it for lunch as sandwiches with fillings, this bread should taste more delicious, when toasted and eaten with butter and jam.
Where to buy the bread
The Sunshine Smart-CarbTM Low G.I. Bread (360g loaf) is currently retailing at $3.30 and is now available at leading supermarkets, hypermarkets and selected convenience stores around Singapore.
is this smart-carb low GI37 bread suitable for all the family members even for kid above 1 year old?
Just the best low GI bread that I have taken.
Problem is whenever I go to the NTUC supermarkets, it is always sold out.
Please stock up the shelves.
