Chocolate Pie Now at McDonald's Singapore

This season, McDonald’s Singapore is introducing some new fishy offerings for seafood lovers across the island. So beginning today, you can dive in and enjoy the crunch of the new Fish & Fries – featuring the timeless combination of crispy, battered tender fish fillet, paired with fries.

The same tender and juicy fish fillet is also featured in the Sweet Chilli Fish Burger, combined with a wave of flavours.

And for chocolate lovers, the viral Chocolate Pie is available in Singapore, complete with the chocolate-y crust and its molten chocolate filling.

Buying the new items to try

Eager to have a taste of these new items on the day of the launch, I braved the queues to buy the new items from my nearest McDonald’s Singapore outlet.

So how do the new items fare? Here are my thoughts on the new offerings – after having them for my lunch this afternoon.

Fish & Fries

This is described by McDonald’s Singapore as featuring the timeless combination of crispy, battered tender fish fillet, paired with their world-famous fries.

I had thought that the crispy batter, which has been prepared tempura-style, is really crunchy and it still continues to retains its crunch even when the fish has cooled down. So this means that those who love anything crispy, will definitely enjoy munching on this – for a hearty meal.

However I found that the batter, which I think may have been prepared with some rice flour to give the crunch, seems to drown out the fish flavour though. So unfortunately, I could not really taste much of the fish – which is more pronounced in the McDonald’s original Filet O Fish Burger.

The Fish & Fries extra value meal includes the Fish & Fries, as well as a Small Fries and a Coke for S$7.90.

Sweet Chilli Fish Burger

This new offering features the same tender and juicy fish fillet with a wave of flavours – some sweet chilli mayonnaise and fresh vegetables and is served on a tasty chili bun.

The flavour of the chilli in McDonald’s sweet chili mayonnaise concoction is definitely quite pronounced here. While there is a very slight hint of a chilli note, it is not really spicy – this means that those who don’t usually take chilli will be able to enjoy this. I felt that the extra chili note in the bun helps to add some sweetness to the bun as well, providing a myriad of flavours to the taste buds.

At the same time, there is a combination of textures in the mouth too, when the burger is eaten in a mouthful together with the crunchy fish fillet – this is because the crunchiness of the batter and the subtle spiciness and sweetness from the sauce, blends well together.

Unfortunately I could not really taste the original flavours of the fish though. The other flavours and textures in the burger had seemed to have drowned out the natural flavours coming from the fish. So this means that if you are a seafood lover, you may be left disappointed.

The extra value meal also includes the sweet chilli fish burger with Medium Fries and a Small Coke and is available from S$7.50.

Chocolate Pie

This is the viral Chocolate Pie that made headlines when it first became available at McDonald’s outlets across Korea. Now it has finally hit Singapore shores.

Consisting of chocolate-y crust and molten chocolate filling, I think that this will definitely suit dark chocolate lovers. The flavour of the chocolate is quite strong and has a rather intense bittersweet note to it.

But at the same time, it is quite rich, so perhaps it may be best to share this pie with a friend rather than eating the whole pie by yourself.

However when I cut into the pie though, the chocolate unfortunately did not ooze out of the pie, despite what I had seen in advertisements. But if the pie is brought home and heated up first, you may see chocolate oozing out.

Also, l feel that there could have been more chocolate filling used in the pie. As a big fan of molten dark chocolate cakes, the amount of filling used in the McDonald’s pie had been a bit little for my liking.

Nevertheless, I think that this will probably go well with McDonald’s Oreo McFlurry or Strawberry Sundae, as the timeless hot and cold combination always goes well together in desserts.
