Review + 15% OFF PROMO Code: Sudio Ett True Wireless Earphones with Active Noise Cancelling

Swiss company Sudio have recently launched the Ett, which is their first true wireless earphones with active noise cancelling and wireless charging features.

Says CEO Johan Gawell, Sudio, “We have worked very hard to produce a true wireless model with active noise cancelling and we are very proud of the result. The Ett marks the beginning of a new range of true wireless earphones at Sudio.”

With ambient noise and external distractions often being a key issue in terms of affecting music listening, I had been quite intrigued and interested to try out the Sudio Ett due to this.

Take charge of your listening experience

As well, other features of the Ett, which is marketed as allowing you to take charge of your listening experience, also includes up to 30 hours of listening time and an IPX5 water resistance rating that is designed to handle all sorts of weather conditions.

Four different colours

The Ett comes in four different colours to cater to varying preferences, and these are pink, black, white and green.

My favourite colour is pink. So unsurprisingly, I picked the pink Ett. This turned out to be a pretty shade of light baby pink.

Sudio Ett Packaging and box contents

When it arrived, the Ett had been packaged within a large black Sudio box which was unfortunately slightly damaged, due to the tape not holding the flap well, when it arrived. Within the box was also a black tote bag and a white gift packaging with Sudio’s brand emblazoned on it.

Similar to Sudio’s other products, the earphones box opens up like a drawer to reveal the contents, packed in a clean and crisp manner, which I have since come to expect from Sudio.

Eight different ear-tips

The first thing I noticed was that there are plenty of ear-tips available, to cater to all types of ear sizes. I counted eight sets altogether.

And moreover, instead of being squished into a plastic bag, the ear-tips were packed in a clean manner that’s similar to tablet capsules and with the various sizes stated on the package. This makes it very easy to pick the size that you need.

I didn’t need to play around with the sizes though because the Ett earphones fit me straight out of the box. I guess it’s because I have average sized ears.

The other accessories included in the box are a usage guide, warranty card, precautions manual and a charging cable.

Sudio Ett Design

In terms of the design of the Ett earphones themselves, they have a slimmer and longer shape than Sudio’s previous model, the Fem, as well as having a matte texture. This is good because it means that fingerprints won’t get caught on the surface.

Pairing is easy

Pairing the Ett is very simple, even the very first time around. As soon as I had put the Ett into my ears, they automatically connected with the Bluetooth signals from my iPhone XS Max, so no additional steps were required.

And within seconds, the Ett had informed me that the pairing process had been successful. So far, so good.

Running with the Sudio Ett

During this Covid-19 circuit breaker period in Singapore, I have been using the Ett to play music to keep me motivated on my daily running adventures.

We are currently under lockdown in Singapore. Outdoor exercise and running in parks close to our home are permitted, but sessions must be done solo and with social distancing measures firmly in place.

So the Ett is proving to be a great companion in terms of keeping me company and preventing my everyday running routines from becoming too lonely and boring.

Besides running, I haven’t had a lot of other opportunities to try out the Ett in outdoor settings, as I have not been taking public transportation or commuting to meetings and events as I usually would otherwise.

As well, testing the Sudio Ett in a busy cafe is not an option, due to the ban on dining-in at eateries.

So this review is mainly based on my regular running sessions with the earphones, as well as a few sessions of using the Ett whilst working from home.

The first run with the Sudio Ett…

So far, I have really enjoyed using the Ett, but with the exception of my very first session with them.

That session had been a 10km run on a very windy morning. It was not raining when I began running but the wind had been howling and in full-strength.

Within the first 4km of my first run with the Ett, my music somehow switched itself off at least 10 times. This was very annoying and I could not focus on listening to my music, as I had to keep constantly switching my music back on.

I usually stream my music from Spotify rather than downloading and playing songs straight from my iPhone, to save my phone’s memory.

My conclusion had been that the particularly strong wind had caused these problems by somehow activating the touch-pad buttons on either my iPhone and the Ett; I can’t quite be sure which, though. Could this have been a case of the buttons being overly sensitive?

The rain then came in the latter half of my run and it was very heavy. By that time, I had already given up using the Ett on that particular run, even though it had still been plugged into my ears through the duration of the run.

Lives up to its IPX 5 water rating

When I fired the Ett back up again upon concluding my run, the earphones had survived the torrential rain with no apparent side effects that I am aware of.

So this means the Ett certainly lives up to the IPX 5 water rating given to it; if you are a heavy sweater while exercising like me, you don’t need to worry about the earphones getting wet and malfunctioning.

Subsequent Sudio Ett sessions were more enjoyable

My other running sessions with the Ett have proven to be completely different and much more enjoyable experiences.

My runs, which I have logged daily during this period, have ranged from a minimum of 5km to a maximum of just over 21km.

And the Sudio Ett’s fitting has been very comfortable.

In fact, they feel so light and snug so it has been very easy to forget that they are in my ears whilst I am running. There is no stress or strain on my ears too, even with the Ett plugged inside for over two hours during my long 21km run. So this has helped to make my runs very enjoyable.

Sound quality and active noise cancelling

In terms of the quality of the audio, the sound is warm and the mids are good. It is a clean, clear and crisp sound. But the high trebles and low bass notes could have been more pronounced. Overall it is decent, but not the best.

The much-touted Sudio Ett’s active noise cancelling feature is also impressive and did not disappoint me.

The effect is quite substantial and I am able to truly focus on my favourite songs, without any ambient distractions surrounding me, using this mode.

The Ett does a great job in removing lower-pitched ambient sounds such as a whirring fan or people talking in the background. However, I realised that some of the higher-pitched ones did manage to still leak through. It is good enough for me.

However, I felt that the volume of the sound produced by the Ett is relatively soft, and I had to crank up the volume controls of my iPhone in order to hear my music well. The Ett does not have any volume controls of its own.

While there are some buttons on the Ett, these controls only allow you to play/pause music tracks, answer calls, skip tracks, rewind tracks and to switch off the Ett.

Answering calls with the Ett

As well, I’ve also picked up a couple of calls using the Ett, and I found that the Ett’s call mode is quite good.

Sudio’s Ett has this ambient call mode which means that while some outside noise gets in, you can hear both yourself as well as the other party quite well, so no shouting is required.

Good Battery Life

The battery life of the Ett is six hours on a single charge in normal mode, and four hours in noise cancelling mode.

So for runners, this is more than enough to last through a marathon as well as those long, solo training runs.

As well, the charging case, when fully charged, gives you four additional charges, which means that you actually get 30 hours of playtime in total.

So if you like listening to music on the move as you go about your daily routines, then you can easily use the Ett through the whole day without the earphones running out of juice.

Easy to charge

Charging the Ett is simple. It uses a USB Type-C cable which is plugged easily into the side of the case. Unfortunately, I couldn’t test the wireless charging mode, though because I don’t have a wireless charging pad at home.
