Run The Philippine Mountains: A Virtual Race

Comprising of seven thousand mountains, the Philippines is split into three main islands – Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao which are famous for their majestic beaches, and rich and diverse heritage.

These mountains are endowed with varying levels of difficulty but its majestic views are worth a trip outdoors, regardless of your fitness level.

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, most of the hiking and running trails are not opened, trail races have been cancelled and mass gatherings are not allowed.

But if you cannot head to the Philippine mountains to run, T8 Philippines and RaceYaya will bring the mountains to you with their latest online virtual race.

How to take on the Philippine mountains virtually

So now, this means that you can take on the challenge of running the seven Philippine mountains in seven days, virtually, no matter where you are in the world. For each registration, a donation will be made to a local mountain guide whose income has been affected by Covid-19.

Race details 

The race itself begins on July 25 at 5am and ends August 1 at 8pm. Runners must clock their runs from 5pm – 8pm each day.

As you continue running, you will unlock achievements along the way, and you will receive an e-certificate for each achievement that you unlock. The achievements are as follows.

  • Level 1 – Run 450m of elevation gain and conquer Mount Parawagan
  • Level 2 – Run 830m of elevation gain and conquer Mount Maculot
  • Level 3 – Run 1445m of elevation gain and conquer Mount Pinatubo
  • Level 4 – Run 1846m of elevation gain and conquer Mount Ulap
  • Level 5 – Run 2056m of elevation Gain and conquer Mount Guiting Guiting
  • Level 6 – Run 2465 m of Elevation Gain and conquer Mount Kanlaon
  • Level 7 – Run 3000m of Elevation gain and conquer Mount Pulag (2926M) or Mount Apo (2956M)

Each level of achievement is based on the elevation gains that matches the altitude of each mountain. For example, to cover this, Mount Parawagan has 450 meters of altitude and to cover that, you can run 10 x 45 meters over 20km or 2 x 250 metres over 10km.

Registration is open

Registration is now open, and ends on July 8. It costs P350 (S$9.80) per person.

And for each registration, P100 will be donated to the local tourist guides in the Philippines.
