Originally slated to take place on 9th and 10th May this year, the OCBC Cycle 2020 was cancelled a couple of months ago due to Covid-19 with full refunds for all participants to be made by 14 September.

Instead, the 13th iteration of OCBC Cycle 2020, the region’s premier cycling event, will now be a free virtual event, named OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride and will consist of three virtual ride categories – Sportive VR (42km), Straits Times VR (23km) and Mighty Saver Kids VR (5km or 800m).

Said Koh Ching Ching, Head of Group Brand and Communications, OCBC Bank, “With the Covid-19 outbreak, it is only right to not hold this annual mass cycling event this year.” 

She added, “Instead, without sacrificing the safety of participants, we still hope to bring the joy of cycling to the community via the virtual ride format. People deserve to have something they can get excited about during this challenging time.”

Participants who cycle the full distance of any of the OCBC Cycle 2020 Virtual Ride categories from 1 to 15 November, anywhere safe, be it indoors or outdoors, will be considered at having completed the event and will receive the OCBC Cycle 2020 medal and event tote bag by 7 December.

To show proof of completion, it is mandatory for participants to use a fitness tracker or a workout app on a smartphone that can record the ride details. Details must be submitted to the organiser by 15 November.

It is not necessary to complete the full distance in one ride; participants can do so over a maximum of four separate riders during the clock-in period.

There will be limited slots available so cyclists who have previously registered for the OCBC Cycle 2020 event will have the chance to sign up first, between 21 July and 14 August, for the virtual ride.

Members of the public who did not originally register for the May event can sign up between 15th August and 18th September – if slots remain available.
