The Herbalife Nutrition 40th Anniversary Virtual Run took place from 1st November – 6th December 2020.
More than 14,000 regional participants
The highlight to Herbalife Nutrition’s Get Moving With Good Nutrition campaign, the event saw more than 14,000 participants across Asia-Pacific region running a combined distance of over 60,000 kilometres.
The Get Moving With Good Nutrition campaign had been held from October to early December 2020, and its focus was to break health inertia across the Asia Pacific region, as well as to inspire healthy active living, and foster communities that support one another on their healthy living journeys.
The campaign focused on the the Virtual Run as its highlight activity, supported by the Herbalife Nutrition Asia Pacific eWellness Tour, expert-led online fit sessions and nutrition talks.
Both individual and team distances
The Virtual Run had consisted of both individual and team categories of varying distances, so that nobody was left out. As an avid runner myself, I took part in the individual 40km category.
The other run categories that were available had been the 4km and 24km for individuals and the 24km, 40km, 60km, 80km and 100km for the team challengers.
Herbalife Nutrition Run Kit
During the lead-up to the run, Herbalife Nutrition kindly sent me a 40th Anniversary Virtual Run Kit which was worth more than S$380 and which had comprised of a combination of Herbalife nutrition supplements and other products to set me up and prepare me or the run.
Doing the Virtual Run
Over the run dates, I did my 40km over several runs on both weekdays and weekends. One of the sessions had been a longer 21km run on Sunday, with the rest being shorter runs of 10km or less on the weekdays.
So that the running process would be less boring, my chosen locations were quite varied, ranging from East Coast Park to Marina Bay in Singapore.
I am a regular runner, so overall I would say that it took about a week to complete 40km of running.
Submission of Run Data
Tracking the run and submitting my mileage was quite easy. I simply used my Garmin Forerunner 945 watch as the device to clock the miles and once uploaded, I submitted the screenshots from my Garmin Connect App using the unique link provided in my email when I had registered.
Besides a Garmin Watch, mileage could also be clocked using Fitbit or Apple Watch devices, as well as apps such as RunKeeper or Strava depending on your preferences. So the mechanics for the virtual run was pretty inclusive for everyone.
Due to the large number of submissions, it took a couple of weeks for the online leaderboard to be updated to display my mileage.
Nonetheless, this had been a great way to stay motivated and keep up my enthusiasm for running, with something concrete to aim for at the end of it all.
This is because I am finding that the longer running events are being put on hold, I have found it progressively harder and harder to continue to stay motivated to train and run.
Medal and Cert Arrive
The Herbalife medal and a Virtual Run certificate arrived via courier in early March, which was a few months after the conclusion of the run.
With the large number of submissions and entrants, I understand that the time taken to process everything was necessary. Nevertheless, receiving the medal brought a smile to my face, reminding me of the time back in November when I was clocking mileage for this run.
Thanks again to Herbalife for inviting me to join this Virtual Run. It had been fun and I look forward to their next fitness or running event.
