He had waited in line for almost 14 painstaking hours – so that he could get a year’s supply of free Krispy Kreme donuts.
But now that he has them, what will 22-year-old Mark Lin do with all of his donuts?
A self-confessed donut fan, Mark said, “Well, it’s definitely a lot of donuts! I will try as hard as I can to finish them. And I’ll share them with my friends and family, and give away a few boxes to my colleagues too.”
The Corporate Relations and Communications Director was the Golden Ticket winner for the launch of Krispy Kreme Singapore’s second store at Raffles Place today.
Won 624 Donuts
Mark had won 624 Original Glaze donuts (12 donuts per week for 52 consecutive weeks).
He did so by being the first in queue at the brand new Income at Raffles store. Said Mark, “I came here to queue last night at 10pm.” Well, his efforts and time have certainly paid off!
Other prizes given out at the launch also included a Silver Ticket and a Bronze Ticket. These went to 19-year-old student, Pearlyn Tan and 56-year-old retiree, Eddie Wong. For being second and third in the queue respectively, they will each get six months’ and three months’ supply of Krispy Kreme donuts.
Donut named after a lucky Krispy Kreme fan
As part of the launch, a special donut was named after lucky Krispy Kreme fan, Jenny Lim. She was the winner of Krispy Kreme’s Be An Office Hero contest, which was organized in the days leading up to the second store’s official launch.
On how she had felt about a double chocolate and Oreo flavoured donut being named after her, admin officer Jenny, 31, said, “I felt so surprised and I hadn’t expect this at all.”
To be eligible for the contest, Krispy Kreme fans were asked to say why they are office heroes. In her winning entry, Jenny had said that she is an entertainer who keeps everyone happy in her office – so that they are not stressed at work.
Bestselling and delicious Krispy Kreme flavours available
Besides the Jenny Lim donut, some of the other 16 flavours available include the bestselling Original Glaze, Red Velvet and New York Cheesecake ones. The latter is Krispy Kreme Singapore Director, Adrian Tan’s personal favourite.
There are also four Special Edition donuts currently available. These include the chocolate caramel meringue and the double chocolate custard donuts.
A small café in the Singapore CBD
The Raffles Place outlet marks a change from Krispy Kreme’s standard over-the-counter stores. This outlet is a 25-seater café where visitors can indulge in donuts, coffee and other drinks.
Fitted with a high ceiling and contemporary furnishings, there is also free Wi-Fi and charging points for smartphones and laptops at the new store.
Bringing Krispy Kreme to the workplace
On why they had selected the Raffles Place location for Singapore Store number two, Adrian Tan, said, “We want to bring the Krispy Kreme experience to the workplace of our customers.”
So this means that office workers can drop by the Krispy Kreme store during the day. There, they can grab a donut, to re-energize themselves, before heading back to the office again.
And this may have been what was exactly in the mind of Silver Ticket winner Pearlyn, when she said, “Actually I was quite excited that they are opening a branch at Raffles Place, since I’m currently working in this area.”
