FairPrice Walks With U 2015, a walking event scheduled for 29 March at the Singapore Sports Hub, has been cancelled, as this is the day of the state funeral for Singapore’s very first Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. This is a mark of respect to Mr Lee, who had passed away during the wee hours of Monday morning. FairPrice wants Singaporeans to be able to join in together as one accord, to bid their final farewell to the nation’s founding father.
FairPrice will fulfil their earlier commitment to donate $150 for each participant
Though the event is now called off, FairPrice Foundation still promises to fulfil their earlier commitment to donate $150 for every participant who had registered for the walk. As there were 8,000 participants, the total cost will be $1.2 million. The funds will go directly towards the FairPrice Food Voucher Schedule – which will help lower income families defray the cost of daily expenses. Last year, the FairPrice Foundation had donated a total of $1 Million to the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme.
Proceeds from registration fees will now go to charity
All proceeds from the event participation fees, which is $10 to $15 per person, will also be going to charity. But participants can still keep their goodie bags and T-shirts, which were given out earlier.
