Singapore’s Largest Japanese Summer Festival Returns To Sports Hub This September

The second edition of the largest Natsu Matsuri event in Singapore, the Japan Summer Festival, will be taking place at the Singapore Sports Hub on 7 and 8 September this year.

The inaugural event had taken place last year, to a resounding success. And this event is held in conjunction with the Japanese Association of Singapore and aims to harness better cultural understanding between both the Japanese and local communities.

An immersive Japanese cultural experience

Held in conjunction together with the Sports Hub Community Play Day, event visitors can expect an immersive experience in traditional and popular Japanese culture through activities that are set to include the following.

  • Bon-Odori Dance – A time-honoured Japanese dance under the canopy of the world’s largest free-spanning dome. Don the Yukata as you take part in this activity too.
  • Japanese Stage Performances – These will feature Japanese dance and theatre shows that will be performed on a massive open-air stage located in the centre of the National Stadium.
  • Yukata Rentals – Dress the part by putting on the traditional Japanese summer garment, the Yukata, which is a casual version of the Kimono. A rental service will be set up at the event and supply of the outfits are while stocks last.
  • Pokemon Carnival and the Pikachu Dance Parade – There will be six carnival games and a Pikachu parade around the Stadium grounds
  • OHANA Games – Form teams of three to five and relive the good old days of Singapore with games featuring elements of Singapore heritage such as pulling a rickshaw and doing the Samsui Dash
  • J-pop Fitness Dance Jam – This is a heart-pumping group workout led by Japanese instructors and will fuse Japanese Pop Culture with fitness exercises targeted at both the Japanese and the Singaporean community

Tasty Japanese treats

And as well, to satisfy your tummies, there will be over 100 booths serving up tasty, authentic Japanese food and beverage options, in case you are beginning to feel peckish from participating in all the games, walking around, and other physical activities.

These include delicious Wagyu Beef Rice Burgers, Deep-Fried Cheese Mochi, Yaki-Soba and Okonomiyaki.
