Last Sunday afternoon, I had been invited to the Singapore Sports Hub for a Super Splash Sunday experience, together with about 12 other bloggers and influencers and their partners.
Paddle Biking at the Water Sports Centre
After almost everyone had arrived, the event began with activity try-outs at the Water Sports Centre. We were randomly assigned one of three sports – kayaking, pedal boating and pedal biking, and I was assigned to the pedal bike.
This had been my first time on a pedal bike and I can say that it had definitely been an interesting experience.
Though I cycle regularly, I have to say that the pedal bike is quite different compared to the standard road bicycle that I am used to because there are no such thing as gears or brakes that are used to control the speed.
Instead, you are supposed to use the handlebars to turn left or right, and if you want to reverse or change direction, you are required to pedal backwards.
Confusing But Fun Session
It was quite confusing at first and I have to admit that the session had also turned out to be much more work than I had originally anticipated.
That said, it was still fun to be able to spend some time out on the water and enjoy the views from a different vantage point – even though my legs were aching quite a bit by the end of it all, no thanks to all of my long runs in preparation for the London Marathon, as well!
Stingray And Splash-N-Surf
After the pedal biking experience, we were then instructed to head over to the Splash-N-Surf area, which is located at Gate 20 of the National Stadium, where had some fun with the Stingray.
A smaller version of the Wave House at Sentosa, the Stingray is a half-pipe surfing facility and because it was my first time trying out something like this, I was, understandably, nervous at the beginning.
As well, I was a little afraid of the fast current and whether I would end up making a fool of myself by getting washed out within the first few seconds.
Stingray Was Great Fun
But the Stingray turned out to be much more fun than I had anticipated. And by the end of my time there, I definitely felt that I need much more practice but at least I had a great time and managed to go all the way to the end without being washed out during my first try at kneeling on the board.
So I suppose this means that I have something to cheer about, from my brief taste at the Stingray. Next time, I certainly hope that I can try out the Stingray again – and have the chance to spend a much longer time working at it.
You Can Try The Stingray Too
Have you wanted to try the Stingray yourself, too? For those who have tickets to the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens at the Singapore Sports Hub on the 13 and 14 April, you will indeed be able to have a go at the Stingray yourself.
At the same time, HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens ticket holders this year, will also have an opportunity to relax on the Lazy River – to take a reprieve from the adrenaline and nail-biting rugby action happening within the National Stadium.
These amenities will be open and free for ticket holders to try, throughout the weekend. So you will have plenty of time to decide how to plan your sports-filled weekend.
HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens Media Food Preview
The Super Splash Sunday session concluded with the event’s invited bloggers and influencers getting a small taste of the food offerings that will be made available during the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens.
So as such, we were given an afternoon tea comprising of a few of the items that will be on sale for HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens ticket holders this weekend.
The food items that we had, included sausage hot dogs with sauerkraut, teriyaki chicken on soba noodle salad, BBQ pork ribs on the bone with asian slaw and BBQ sauce, beef on a roll and churros with chocolate sauce.
Choose the Teriyaki Chicken on Soba Noodle Salad with Cabbage and Asian Herbs
Out of all these, my favourite was probably the teriyaki chicken on soba noodle salad, as this was tasty and delicious.
So if you are heading down to catch the rugby action, I strongly recommend that you try these food item for yourself when you are feeling peckish due to all of the action and adrenaline.
