DOMINO’S Pizza Singapore Launches New Daebak Spicy Menu

To cater to Singaporeans’ love for things Korean, Domino’s Pizza has introduced a new Daebak Spicy Menu.

The world’s leading and fastest growing pizza delivery company committed to upholding the industry in product quality and operational excellence, there are currently 28 Domino’s Pizza stores in Singapore and the chain is managed by master franchise holder Domino’s Pizza Singapore Pte Ltd.

Domino’s prides themselves on quality assurance too – so every pizza is freshly prepared for your order and ready to be served within 15 minutes of receiving it. For deliveries, Domino’s aims to get your pizza to you within 30 minutes upon baking, or else your next regular pizza is free.

INSPIRED BY SINGAPOREANS’ LOVE FOR THINGS KOREAN

And their new menu, consisting of Daebak Spicy Pizzas and Daebak Spicy Wings, is inspired by Korean flavour profiles well loved by Singaporeans and features three very different pizza varieties – beef, chicken and tuna, as well as the Daebak Spicy chicken wings, made with Domino’s very own Daebak Spicy Sauce.

Said Heng Ee Laine, Marketing Manager, Domino’s Pizza Singapore, “We spent six months conceptualising the Daebak Spicy Menu and it has been inspired by Singaporeans’ love for Korean flavours. We just launched the new menu last Monday.”

Domino’s Daebak Spicy Sauce is packed with sweet, spicy and umami flavour profiles to complement the different meats on each pizza. Said Ee Laine, “The sauce is our own homemade Daebak spicy sauce and we designed it so that goes well with each of the pizzas nicely.”

She continued, “And the three different types of meats available also ensures that there is an option for everyone in our new range.”

TRYING OUT THE THREE NEW PIZZAS

I was recently invited to Domino’s newest outlet – located at 13 Stanley Street at Raffles Place, for a media tasting session of the three new Korean inspired pizzas.

Made with generous tuna chunks on a warm bed of cheese and Daebak spicy sauce, together with juicy cherry tomatoes, onion slices and dried parsley, the Daebak Spicy Tuna Pizza is topped with some creamy onion sauce drizzled to balance out the spice from the Daebak spicy sauce and then baked to perfection on Domino’s pizza crust.

When I tried this pizza, the first thing I detected was the sweetness from the Daebak spicy sauce. A few moments later, the spiciness from the sauce hit me too, combining together with the sweetness.

Unfortunately this pizza is probably best eaten warm. This is because when I had it, the pizza had cooled down already and as such, I had felt that the tuna was a tad on the fishy side and this had spoiled the flavours a little. So if you order this pizza, do eat it up quickly.

If you want a subtle amount of Korean spice without being overpowering, this would be a good flavour of pizza to choose.

The Daebak Spicy Chicken Pizza on the other hand, consists of roasted chicken slices and Daebak spicy sauce topped with green peppers, sliced onions, dried parsley and cheese. It is inspired by the combination of chicken and hot sauce that is enjoyed in many dishes including Korean fried chicken.

Topping off the pizza is a drizzle of creamy onion sauce for an extra oomph.

I thought the flavour of this pizza was quite similar to the tuna one, with the combination of spiciness and sweetness from the Daebak spicy sauce hitting me when I took a bite from a slice of this pizza. It was a pleasant taste, and this one was probably my favourite version out of the Korean Daebak spicy pizza range.

Unlike the tuna, which gave off a slight fishy flavour when it is cooled, the chicken was quite moist and delicious and there was also a savoury, meaty note coming from the chicken that had blended in rather well with the sweetness from the Daebak spicy sauce.

Upon taking more bites of this pizza, the spicy sweet note becomes more pronounced but still, without overwhelming my taste buds.

I think that I would probably order this flavour of pizza again as it had contained just the right amount of spice for me.

The final Korean inspired flavour, the Daebak Spicy Beef Pizza consists of marinated beef sliced, chopped cherry tomatoes, mushroom slices, dried parsley and sesame seeds and is topped with Daebak Spicy Sauce to pack a punch of spice before it is baked.

From Korean BBQ to stews to bulgogi, beef has become a stable in Korean menus, so I suppose that it is only fitting that Domino’s Singapore introduces a beef version in their Korean range.

When I ate this pizza, I was immediately overwhelmed by the Daebak spicy sauce. The spiciness hit me upon taking my first bite and only grew stronger as I continued to finish the slice of pizza. In fact, I had to drink almost a full 500ml bottle of water to wash away the spicy note in my mouth because I do not usually eat such spicy foods.

Due to the large amount of spiciness in this pizza, I could also not detect much of the sweetness from the Daebak Spicy Sauce, unlike when I had tried both the tuna and the chicken pizzas.

Unfortunately I also felt the spiciness from the Daebak spicy sauce had also drowned out the beef flavour in this flavour of pizza. I love beef, but I was a bit disappointed that I could not really taste very much of a beefy note here.

But if you are a true spice lover, then I would recommend you to go for this pizza, as it offers the palette a true spicy kick.

The Daebak Spicy pizzas are priced from S$24.90 for a regular sized pizza; but if you order two pizzas, you pay S$22 for both.

And those who still cannot get enough of the Daebak Spicy Sauce, Domino’s Pizza also has the new Daebak Spicy Wings, which are juicy drumlets and midpoints baked to perfection for a satisfying crunch.

The wings are then coated with Daebak spicy sauce and garnished with aromatic roasted sesame seeds and dried parsley.

Upon tasting these wings, I would say the chicken meat is definitely tender and juicy. Unlike the beef pizza, the Daebak spicy sauce is also not as overwhelming. I could pick up both a spicy and a sweet note, which goes quite well with the juicy chicken wings, balancing out the savoury, meaty note from the chicken, quite nicely. I could easily have eaten more than one piece of chicken if I were not feeling so full from having so much pizza.

The Daebak Spicy Wings are S$10.90 as an a-la-carte order but if you purchase this together with your Daebak Spicy pizzas, you top up S$7.90.

To counter the amount of spiciness from the Korean inspired menu, we were also given an Awesome Foursome, which is an assortment of four popular Domino’s side dishes – Crazy Chicken Crunchies (Original), Golden Roasted Drummets, Cheesy Cheddar Stix and Cinnamon Rolls.

I thought that these were definitely great for getting rid of the spiciness from the earlier foods, and my favourite of the side dishes had to be the Cheddar Cheese Stix, as these were quite yummy and addictive, with the cheese literally oozing out of them. I ate more than one stix even though I was full!

Adding the Awesome Foursome to your Daebak Spicy meal will cost you S$19.90.

We ended the meal on a sweet note, with Domino’s two chocolate lava cakes. There are two flavours – an original chocolate one and a chocolate peanut butter one. I tried both and they were both yummy because I have a sweet tooth.

The chocolate one would probably be a tad on the sweet side for dark chocolate lovers, but the peanut butter one was interesting, because the saltiness from the peanut butter balances out the subtle sweetness from the chocolate, thus creating an interesting sensations of tastes and flavours in the mouth.

In line with salty and sweet flavours, it would be nice for Domino’s to come out with a salted caramel infused chocolate lava cake, as I feel that salted caramel and chocolate are always a timeless combination that matches with each other quite well.

The chocolate lava cakes are priced at S$7.90 each at Domino’s Singapore outlets.

MAKING MY OWN PIZZA

At the event, some members of the media took the opportunity to enter Domino’s kitchen to try our hands at making our own customised personal pan pizza.

I gamely tried, even though I had never made a pizza in my life before. It was an interesting experience and I had never realised that making pizza is so technical; when I was in the kitchen, the staff was instructing me on many things such as that the dough has to be rolled and flattened in a specific way to eliminate air pockets in the final product and that the amount of cheese to be put on the pizza has to be weighed to be at least 30 grams.

Unfortunately when my customised pizza came out of the oven, it was a bit lopsided though – apparently I had not spread the cheese out nicely, so the cheese was all concentrated on one area of the pizza! But I still suppose that it was a good first effort and at least I know what to do next time if I am ever making pizza again.

AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME

Domino’s Daebak menu is available from now for a limited time, only in restaurants and via delivery.

If you are hosting a party of four, you can also opt for the Daebak Combo Deal. At S$39.90, you can enjoy one Daebak Spicy Pizza of your choice, one Regular Pizza, a serving of Daebak Spicy Wings and a bottle of Heaven & earth Green Tea.
