A balanced diet begins with drinking and eating healthily. With health related conditions such as obesity and diabetes becoming more prevalent in today’s world, more people are looking at what they are consuming.
Low Glycemic Index
That is where G.I. (Glycemic Index) comes in. Rated on a scale of 1 to 100, G.I. refers to the rate that the body digests carbohydrates and releases glucose to the bloodstream. The lower the G.I. reading, the slower it takes to break down food, resulting in a sustained release of sugar.
Explained Dr. Kalpana Bhaskharan, Unit Head of Temasek Polytechnic’s Glycemic Research Unit and Manager of Nutrition Research at the polytechnic, “This means that the food steadily fuels the body and keeps the body satisfied for longer period of time. Hence a low G.I diet can be suitable for diabetics as well as in weight management. Other research has also shown the benefits of consuming low G.I. food to our heart health.”
F&N’s NutriSoy with Omega is a low G.I. food item, and has been verified to have a G.I reading of below 55.
Foods that have a G.I of below 55 are considered as Low G.I. foods according to the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). Those with G.I of above 70 are considered as High G.I. and those within the range of 55 to 70 are classified as Moderate G.I. foods.
The F&N’s NutriSoy with Omega also offers Omega-3 Flaxseed that has been proven by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2010, to improve blood lipid profile thus reducing risk of heart diseases. Calcium and Vitamin C have also been added to the milk for stronger and healthier bones.
There are two versions of the F&N NutriSoy With Omega – a Reduced Sugar and a No Sugar Added one.
The Milk
F&N recently sent me two cartons of the F&N NutriSoy milk. The soy milk flavour is quite mild, and it will suit those who may not be accustomed to the strong taste of soy beans.
For a more healthy version of coffee or milo, mixing the F&N NutriSoy milk into it, rather than normal fresh milk, adds a refreshing flavour to your local beverage and due to the mildness, it does not overwhelm the coffee or the milo taste.
