Now you can tuck into bread and cupcakes too when you are on a Low-Carb and Low-Sugar diet – with the launch of Seriously Keto, which is Singapore’s first wholly Ketogenic bakery, and offers an array of healthy choice offerings of Keto-friendly breads and healthy desserts, bringing guilt-free goodness in every bite.
From their signature KetoBun to their favourite sweets, everything which is baked at Seriously Keto is Low-Carb, Gluten-Free, Low-Calorie and Zero-Sugar, making it the perfect go-to bakery for those who are looking to cut carbs, gluten and sugar out of their diet, as well as for diabetics who are sensitive to sugar.
Founded By Janti Joso Brasilia
This bakery was founded by Janti Joso Brasilia, who decided to take matters into her own hands when she had embarked on a Ketogenic lifestyle herself and she faced difficulties avoiding many of the carbo-loaded foods outside.
Explained Janti, 53, “I came across the Keto lifestyle and I thought, let’s give it a try. I was very committed and I watched my carb intake really closely for 21 Days and within that time frame, I lost three kilograms, even though I wasn’t doing any exercise. That is amazing for someone in my age group.”
Benefits Of Keto Diet
Besides weight loss, Janti also experienced several other benefits with the Keto diet.
She said, “There are so many benefits. I used to have feminine health issues but these are now gone, My energy levels are also much higher now. I travel frequently and I am finding myself recovering from Jet Lag a lot faster these days. I really feel that I have been revived now and I feel younger than I have ever felt in my whole life.”
Not Difficult To Follow
She added that it isn’t difficult to follow a Keto diet. Said Janti, “You basically need to know where the hidden sugars are, for example when you go to a restaurant, go with meat based dishes and order the sauce separately because the basic meat generally does not have carbohydrates. But be careful of coatings, though, as there may be carbs in there. It is a very easy lifestyle to follow and user-friendly too.”
Drawbacks
Continued Janti, “But at the same time, I missed my cakes. I had been looking for cakes because I love high tea with my friends. But on a Keto diet, I could only look at the cake and maybe only take one small bite of it. It made me feel miserable. While I wanted to be pretty and slim for vanity reasons, I also wanted to enjoy my food – that is, the wine, bread and cakes and live normally, too.”
Birth Of Seriously Keto
So this was why Janti decided to delve into baking herself, experimenting with various ingredients to come up with solutions for herself to enjoy her desserts.
Explained Janti, “We could not use Gluten or normal flour in order to make the bakes rise and become fluffy. So it was very trying and I had so many fails. It took a couple of weeks, full-time, and lots of trial-on-errors to bake something that actually tasted good.”
She continued, “But it all worked out, and my friends really loved my recipes – In fact they encouraged me to sell my bakes, and that was how this business of mine all began.”
Invited To Launch Event
I was invited to the Seriously Keto launch event, which had taken place recently at the Happy Pancakes Cafe located at Orchard Central.
This Keto diet is something that is not new to me. Basically a Low-Carb, High-Fats diet that trains the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates as an energy source, I first learned about this way of eating several years back, from my running coach, Ben Pulham, who runs Coached, a heart-rate training programme targeted at runners and triathletes. Ben himself is a strong advocate of this diet.
Trying Out The Keto Bakes
During the launch event, guests had the chance to try out a few of Seriously Keto’s bakes, which included the KetoBun, an assortment of cupcakes with flavours such as pandan, red velvet, chocolate and strawberry. There were also a couple of spreads that were available, such as Kaya and Forest Fruits.
And I really have to admit that I feel Seriously Keto had done a pretty good job with their bakes in terms of the tastes and flavour profiles.
I had thought that the KetoBun, which is made using almond flour as the ingredient base and mixed together with onion powder, apple cider vinegar, unsalted butter and psyllium husk, tasted quite similar to a normal soft bread roll. But at the same time, it had been slightly less doughy than eating actual bread. I admit that if I had not been told, I could almost have sworn that I had been tucking into a standard bread roll.
The cupcakes, which were topped with icing cream, tasted quite delicious and they reminded me of normal cupcakes. In fact, I provably would not have known that they are low in carbohydrates, if I had not been informed beforehand. These too, had been prepared with almond flour and I must say that though these were not quite as fluffy, smooth or sweet as compared to a normal sugary cupcake, I would definitely consider buying these if I happen to be craving for some cupcakes.
I tried a few variants of the cupcakes out for myself and my favourite was probably the Chocolate Deluxe Cupcake. The 85% extra fine chocolate used in this particular cake had tasted rich and dark, which had suited me well because I love my chocolate. The flavour was also enhanced with the presence of decaf coffee, which had added some richness and roast to it.
Other types of Keto-friendly foods that were also available at the launch and these included assorted nuts, Salami & cheese rolls, as well as smoked salmon on toasted Keto-bread. I tried them all and these were all rather delicious.
Based on what I had observed at the media launch, many of the invited guests seemed to be tucking into and enjoying Seriously Keto’s bakes, too. And the founder herself had appeared to be pleased with the initial reception that was being received.
Said Janti, “I would strongly urge everyone to get onto the wagon of no carbs and no sugar and you will have a better life.”
Confident That Singapore Market Is Ready
And with more education and public awareness of the Low-Carb lifestyle, Janti is very confident that Seriously Keto’s products will take off in Singapore.
She explained “I think that I can see the need and opportunity here because people are understanding that sugar is really bad and I am giving an alternative to them. More people are becoming aware of Low-Carb eating – not just diabetics, but the general Singaporean person who wants to get a few inches off their waistlines.”
Continued Janti, “Moreover, with the recent government campaigns that are encouraging people to cut off sugar from their daily diets, this is something that Singaporeans would want to look into.”

Hi
I wish to order the pandan keto cake but I could not click on the date. I need it on 25 May.
Hello, please place your orders at
http://seriouslyketo.com/.
I am just a blogger who attended a Seriously Keto event.
I have no affiliations with the bakery owner.
Good advice! I truly love the ketogenic diet and
I have made a lot of progress in changing my eating habits in the past year.
An important thing that really helped me get onboard with
my lifestyle changes was having access to a quality ketogenic diet cookbook.
Recently, I discovered one that offers 148 ketogenic recipes complete with step-by-step meal planning.
In addition, it provides you with a handy list of high-carb foods
to avoid and advice on how to get rid of your constant cravings for them.
The recipes are amazing and it contains enough recipes to prevent you from getting bored with your new diet.
I highly recommend that you try it.
