Yesterday, I put up a blog post about McDonald’s® Singapore’s new and improved Roasted Sesame Ebi Burger, the all-new White Chocolate Strawberry Pie and the Seaweed Shaker Fries that had just been launched by the fast-food chain.
As I had been intrigued by these new items, I decided to head down to McDonald’s® Singapore, to try them out for myself.
So for my dinner, I ordered the Ebi Feast, consisting of a Single Roasted Sesame Ebi Burger, Seaweed Shaker Fries, White Chocolate Strawberry Pie and a drink to wash everything down. This cost me S$10.20.
Single Roasted Sesame Ebi Burger
This burger consists of a deep-fried shrimp patty topped with roasted sesame mayonnaise and tucked between a black and white sesame bun with crisp lettuce.
The prawn taste is apparent when I bit into this burger and I can detect this immediately. As well, the breaded patty is crunchy and this adds a fresh, crispy texture to the burger, which I quite liked. My only gripe was that the prawn patty seemed to lack a ‘springy bite.’
In that regard, I felt that it would have been better if McDonald’s® Singapore could have breaded and fried whole prawns rather than mashing up the prawns in the form of a prawn patty. I think that this would have given the burger more texture and substance.
The addition of the roasted sesame mayonnaise adds some flavour to the burger. I thought that the sesame kick was just enough to help enhance the prawn flavour but without being overpoweringly strong, at the same time.
Seaweed Shaker Fries
This is basically McDonald’s® Singapore’s French Fries with some seaweed seasoning added in – and I have to say that if you like the taste of salt and MSG, then this would appeal to you.
While I could detect a slight hint of seaweed flavour present, this seaweed flavour seemed to be drowned out by an overwhelming taste of salt and MSG.
This makes the fries addictive, but I quickly realised that the more you eat, the more you need to drink.
White Chocolate Strawberry Pie
I was particularly looking forward to trying this one, because I am a huge fan of strawberries and this dessert originally reminded me of strawberries and cream.
This pie consists of white chocolate cream filling and the sweetness of strawberry bits encased within a warm, flaky crust.
However I have to say that I was quite disappointed with this offering.
Cutting the pie open, the filling did not ooze out at all, even though the pie was warm.
And in terms of the taste, I felt that the strawberry taste was too weak and not distinctive. As well, the white chocolate taste also did not come out strongly either.
Instead, the predominant flavour that I somehow seemed to detect reminded me of the taste of ‘oil’, which did not really sit well with my taste buds.
Next time, if I am at the fast-food chain and I want something sweet and warm, I would prefer McDonald’s® Singapore’s apple pies anytime, compared to this pie.
