You may have already tasted his food at the Wild Rocket, a wildly popular restaurant selling modern Singaporean cuisine.
Now, you can have the chance to indulge in Chef Willin Low’s own artisanal ice cream creation – right from the comfort of your own home.
That’s because The Inspired Chef ice creams have just been introduced to all FairPrice Finest and FairPrice Xtra supermarkets – to mark Singapore’s National Day. So this means that you can go to these supermarkets, buy a pint of the ice cream and bring it home to indulge in front of the television or as a midnight snack.
The Inspired Chef artisanal ice cream
Chef Low is one of the top Singaporean chefs behind the popular home grown handcrafted The Inspired Chef ice cream brand. This ice cream is the cumulative work of some of the best chefs in Singapore. They had created the flavours and came up with the tastes, from their own ideas of what ice cream should be like.
Chef Low’s creation, the Double Peanut Fudge flavour, is made of peanut butter ice cream infused with bits of crunchy peanut candy brittle and drizzled with dark chocolate fudge.
On this Double Peanut Fudge ice cream flavour, Chef Low said, “I loved gong tng (peanut candy brittle) as a child, so I thought it would be great to add it to ice cream – to give it a local touch. Also, you cannot go wrong with chocolate, so that’s why I added dark chocolate fudge to it.”
He added, “I really enjoyed working on and making the ice cream and I hope that you liked eating it as much as I relished making it. You don’t know how much ice cream I had to eat to create this – but someone’s got to do it!”
Other Chefs
Apart from Chef Low, Chef Pang Kok Keong of French restaurant and patisserie, Antoinette, and Chef Daniel Tay, founder of popular dessert cafe, Bakerzin, were also involved in The Inspired Chef creations.
Chef Pang created the Raspberry Cheesecake Rumble, which combines cream cheese ice cream together with freshly handpicked raspberry coulis, and it is topped with butter crumble to add a crunchy note.
Bakerzin chefs, including Chef Tay, created the other two flavours, the Divine Chocolate Tart and the White Chocolate and the White Chocolate and Black Sesame. As the name suggests, Divine Chocolate Tart comprises of chocolate ice cream, that is topped with butter crumble and sea salt.
As for the White Chocolate and Black Sesame flavour, it is a fusion of East and West – containing luscious and creamy white chocolate ice cream, together with savoury black sesame that will tantalise the taste buds of even the most demanding ice cream connoisseurs.
Together, these chefs had combined their expertise to craft the best and the most decadent ice cream in Singapore, for all those with discerning taste buds.
Inspired Chef Ice Creams
Previously, The Inspired Chef ice cream had only been available online through their own website. But due to popular demand, these artisanal ice creams have just been brought to selected FairPrice supermarkets this month – to mark Singapore’s 49th birthday.
Said Seah Kian Peng, the CEO of NTUC FairPrice, “We are very privileged to be chosen to be the exclusive retailer of this range of The Inspired Chef ice creams.”
At the moment, connoisseurs can also buy these ice creams via the www.inspiredchef.sg website, along with two other alluring flavours, Caramel Popcorn Avalanche, by Chef Janice Wong of 2am: Dessert Bar and Ms Strawberry Madeleine, by Chef Daniel Tay.
Sampling these exquisite ice creams
To mark the launch of these new ice creams, members of the media were invited to the Kallang Wave outlet of the NTUC FairPrice last Friday to sample the new ice cream flavours.
Besides having the ice cream, we also had the bonus of adding toppings, such as hot and buttery French toast, crunchy caramel brittle, marshmallows, raisins and strawberries – to concoct our very own ice cream creations.
I tried the Double Peanut Fudge, Divine Chocolate Tart, White Chocolate and Black Sesame and Raspberry Cheesecake Rumble flavours, together with some of the toppings, and I must say that these are all absolutely delicious and sensational. I strongly recommend that all ice cream connoisseurs should give these ice creams a try.
My personal favourite though, was the Peanut Butter Fudge, simply because I love peanut butter. I thought that the crunchy gong tng really brought out the peanut flavour well, and the chocolate fudge was a great addition to the ice cream, too. Together with the crispy caramel brittle as a topping, the combination is absolutely divine.
Retailing at $14.90 per pint
Apart from the Kallang Wave branch of NTUC FairPrice The Inspired Chef ice creams are also currently retailing at all FairPrice Finest and FairPrice Xtra outlets across Singapore, at $14.90 per pint (473ml)
Last Friday and Saturday, the public were also given the chance to try the new ice cream flavours together with toppings – at the NTUC FairPrice outlet in the Kallang Wave Mall.
