This is a popular family-run café located in the Mt Eden suburb of Auckland, New Zealand – offering a good selection of Western meals. It is a casual eatery and provides guests with a relaxed atmosphere where they can sit around and chill over a simple meal or a cup of coffee.
The Menu
There is a wide selection of food available, ranging from grilled steaks, fish and chicken to lovely desserts, cakes, pies and other savouries. For those who aren’t in the mood for meat, there are also vegetarian dishes, such as vegetarian pasta. For my meal, I had a stuffed chicken breast, with ricotta cheese and spinach stuffing. This was served with a side of sweet potato mash and broccoli. One of my companions had fish and chips while the other selected a vegetarian salad. We had a slice of banana cake for dessert – to end our meal on a sweet note.
Stuffed Chicken Breast
I thought this dish was really delicious. The chicken breast was moist and tender, and cooked to perfection. As well, ricotta cheese was added and gave more moisture to the meat. The spinach also gave the chicken an interesting and unique taste that really appealed to me. The accompanying sweet potato mash was a delightful change to the usual potato version
Fish and Chips
The fish was crumbed and lightly fried. Sweet potato chips were also used rather than normal fries and these appeared to have been oven baked. So it would definitely appeal to the health-conscious. I tried a little bit of this dish and the fish was also really yummy. It was extremely soft and moist and full of flavour, despite the healthy twist to the dish. The sweet potato fries though, did not appeal to me – they were not as crunchy as normal chips.
Vegetarian Salad
This dish came with a wide assortment of vegetables, including lettuce, carrots and beetroot. My companion loved this dish. The good assortment of veggies gave the dish many flavours and textures that had suited my companion really well.
Banana Cake
This was a really scrumptious slice of cake. The true banana flavour came out well and it was soft and moist. There was also an interesting twist to this cake. A layer of caramel flavoured cream had been placed on the top of it – making it even more delicious. This helped to add a really lovely flavour that appealed to my taste buds.
Overall Comments
As a whole, I thought that this was a really lovely little café and I would definitely return to it, if I happen to be in Auckland again.
