A remote virtual race spanning 55 days to lead up to Singapore’s 55th birthday, the upcoming Maju Lah! Virtual Run takes place from 15th June to 9th August 2020.
The first of its kind
Considered to be the first of its kind in Singapore, Maju Lah! Virtual Run, which is organised by Run Crew, aims to celebrate our 55th year of founding and demonstrate Singapore’s togetherness, unity and resilience in the face of the global Covid-19 crisis which has claimed 23 lives and afflicted more than 29,000 people in Singapore.
At the same time, the Maju Lah! Virtual Run aims to encourage more Singaporeans to adopt a healthier lifestyle by running, in line with safe-distancing measures.
When I first heard about the Maju Lah! Virtual Run, I thought that this is a great concept in terms of building a regular fitness regime through running, and making running part of an everyday healthy lifestyle.
Hoping to foster a positive mindset
Said Fabian William, Founder, Run Crew, “Our world turned upside down due to Covid-19 in a matter of weeks.”
He added, “Through this virtual run, we hope to foster a positive mindset, strengthen our national identity and foster a strong sense of unity in the face of adversity.”
Where to register and event categories
Participants can register for the run at www.majulahrun.sg and can choose to enter into either the Resilience or the Solidarity categories depending on what they prefer.
Resilience
For Resilience, runners pick a daily distance of either 2.4km, 5.5km, 10km or 20km and they must persevere and complete their chosen distance every day for 55 days. Runners are ranked based on their timing and the winner will be the runners with the fastest timing for each category.
I think that for this category, the 2.4km and 5.5km distances will appeal to runners who may be looking to get on a regular fitness regime and push themselves to improve their speed and focus for these distances.
On the other hand, the 10km and 20km distances are targeted at regular runners who wish to go longer and further and to challenge their limits and see where it takes them.
For me, I can’t imagine running 20km every day for 55 days straight, but kudos to those who do decide to take up this challenge.
Solidarity
And in the Solidarity category, runners accumulate as much mileage as possible, with the milestone markers being 132km, 302.5km, 550km and 1100km. The participant who clocks the highest mileage wins.
I will be taking part in the Maju Lah! Virtual Run too, and I have entered the Solidarity category.
Personally, this category appeals more to me, because as a seasoned runner, it gives me the freedom to run as much or as little as I want each day depending on my own mood and schedules. I prefer not to be tied down to having to run a specific distance every day.
And I hope that you can join me by taking part in the Maju Lah! Virtual Run as well.
Runners to get e-vouchers and lifestyle products
Registration for the event is priced at S$55/pax and registered runners will receive e-vouchers to dining and lifestyle products as well as commemorative pins and finisher t-shirts for those who complete all 55 days of running.
Proceeds to go to President’s Challenge
And as well, proceeds raised will go to the President’s Challenge, which backs more than 70 charitable causes, ranging from disabled persons to cancer patients.
So by taking part in this not-to-be-missed event, you will be contributing to a good cause too.
What are you waiting for, then?
Join me, let’s unite as one nation, and show what we are made of. Push your limits and sign up for the Maju Lah! Virtual Run 2020.
