MoveFest, the very first of its kind Movement Festival in Asia, will be taking place in Singapore from now till 12th August. This event is being organised in conjunction with the sixth anniversary of SuperFly Monkeys Dragon and will be a combination of two elements.
The SuperFly Monkey Dragons is Singapore’s first Progressive Parkour Movement Academy and have produced pioneering events such as Jump Asia, SuperFly Showdown and the SuperFly Brick Mansions Parkour Jam.
Promotes wellness through movement
Said Derrick Siu, the Founder of SuperFly Monkey Dragons, “The purpose of the festival is to promote wellness through movement activities that are playful and fun at its heart while making it accessible and safe to get the less active out and about.”
These are firstly Y Move and secondly, Sebastien Foucan: The Games & The Experience.
Eight days of Mixed Movement Arts
The Y Move component will consist of eight days of Mixed Movement Arts, which will be made of workshops, FreePlay challenges, showdowns, movement jams and the very first Flow Battle, whereby teams of three from various movement disciplines will showcase their moves in under 90-seconds vying for flow supremacy.
Some of the Movement disciplines that are featured, include Parkour, Calisthenics, Acro-Yoga, Tricking and Contact Improv and these will be on display at the OCBC Square Sports Hub from now till 9 August daily from 9am.
Meet Sebastien Foucan
And then the second component, The Games & The Experience, features the man behind the famous 007 Casino Royale crane jumping scene, Sebastien Foucan, who will be conducting a series of three-hour workshops that focus on fundamental movements of FreeRunning and his own FreeRunning philosophy and practice, from 10th to 12th August, two sessions per day.
At The Games, you will experience a different way of movement practise aside from what has become the norm. These will bring you back to basics and you will walk away with a better understanding of the foundation and a different approach to the practise.
And at The Experience, you will dive deeper into the FreeRunning philosophy and practice, with intimate training and learning sessions with Foucan himself, as well as finding out more about Foucan’s approach to FreeRunning, based on his personal experiences and development, amongst others.
Explained Siu, “We have noticed that over the past few years, these movement disciplines have been gaining popularity and mainstream media attention. These not only encourage movement and exercise but all have elements of creativity, fun and play which many people are falling in love with.”
