With an emphasis on minimalist, yet stylish backpacks that are uniquely designed to fit every setting, Gaston Luga is a Swedish backpack retailer located in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden.
Comprehensive Backpack Range
The women’s range of Gaston Luga’s backpacks comprise of the Clässic, Clässy and Pråper collections, described as follows:
- Clässic – These medium backpacks consist of an elegant and timeless design that is versatile, spacious and multi-functional.
- Clässy – Comprising of Scandinavian minimalism combed with elegance, these backpacks consist of sleeker shoulder straps and shape for a more feminine appearance.
- The Pråper – These large backpacks consist of a dominant and simplistic yet elegant design that will look good in any situation.
And within each collection too, there are also several colour tones available to suit differing preferences, ranging from simpler, neutral colour shades such as black and white, to more sophisticated two-toned colour combinations such as Navy/Brown and Olive/Black.
Chose the Pink Pråper Backpack
The company recently sent me one of their backpacks for me to use and review.
Out of Gaston Luga’s backpack range, I had selected the Pink Pråper backpack. This is because pink is my favourite colour and I have been searching for a big backpack to easily carry my MacBook with me on the go, so the Pråper sounded like it had been just what I needed.
The backpack got to my doorstep about four days after my order had been placed, which I thought had been very timely and efficient on Gaston Luga’s part.
Looks Elegant and Classy
And upon opening the package for the first time, I thought that the actual backpack looked even better than the website photos showed.
I thought that the pink and black colour tones gave the Pråper backpack a very elegant, yet simple appearance that will combine well to add a splash of brightness to my outfits, yet not looking out of place at the same time.
The Pråper backpack is made using a mixture of leather and strong, durable canvas. So I’d say that it will definitely be able to withstand the wear and tear from everyday use.
So then, it was therefore no surprise that I simply could not wait to use my new backpack.
A Large Main Compartment
Inside the backpack, there is a large main compartment containing a separate laptop compartment that can easily fit in a 13-15” laptop.
I loved the idea of the laptop compartment because even though I do already have a cushioned case for my MacBook, the laptop compartment makes it much easier to take my laptop in and out as and when I need to use it, without having to dig through everything else in my bag, messing everything up in the process.
And this makes it especially great for traveling, too, because I always hand-carry my MacBook and would need to take it out for airport security.
The dimensions of this main compartment are 42 by 30 by 15 centimetres and with an inner volume of 18L. Thus, after stowing away my MacBook, I found that there is still plenty of room for my other things inside my pink Pråper backpack.
Some of the stuff that I carry around with me, typically include my wallet, iPhone XS Max, house keys and jacket and occasionally, my running gear and sports shoes – for the times when I have to head straight from a media or work event to my twice-weekly running club sessions in the evenings.
Furthermore, on one occasion, too, I went to a media event and I brought my Pråper backpack along with me.
And at the event, I actually found that I could stuff the large goodie bag that they’d given me, inside my Pråper backpack – thus meaning that I only needed to carry one bag around rather than two.
This had been pretty impressive, considering that the goodie bag had contained at least three to four drink bottles and beverage cans, each about 300ml-500ml, as well as a porcelain mug and a couple of small cardboard boxes.
Generally, I always try to minimise the number of bags I carry when I go out – because I know that I can be quite forgetful at times. So this meant that I was very happy with being able to fit so many things into my Pråper backpack.
The only pitfall with having such a large compartment for my stuff, is that the smaller items such as the house keys and the wallet may get “lost” amongst the clutter.
Two Smaller Side Pockets
But to some extent, Gaston Luga has already thought about this with regards to their backpack design – because there are two smaller side pockets sewed to the inner laptop compartment of the Pink Pråper backpack.
I would say that these little pockets are great for stowing small items such as my house keys, money or EZ-link card. But for my wallet or iPhone XS Max, they are, unfortunately, too small.
A Separate Back Compartment
As well, there is another back compartment, which, according to Gaston Luga, is good to store your passport, travel documents or other small belongings, so that these can be accessed easily.
I tested this compartment out and I found that it is slightly larger than the inner pockets.
But while this space is indeed great for me to put my passport and boarding passes when I am traveling with the Pråper, the pocket too, is unfortunately a bit small to fit my iPhone XS Max inside, as well.
So it looks as though my iPhone XS Max will have to go into the large compartment, after all.
Perhaps a smaller-sized mobile phone may be able to go inside, such as the iPhone XS, though.
Comfortable To Carry
And carrying the Pink Pråper backpack around is very comfortable, thanks to the adjustable large shoulder straps that you can easily mould to suit your own body shape and size.
So I am really glad to know that Gaston Luga’s Pråper not only looks great, but it is also a backpack that I can carry around for hours, without suffering any aching shoulders or having straps “eating” into my body.
Bag Stands Upright
And the Pråper also has metal feet at the base to keep it standing upright when you place it down, as well as to help the base of the backpack to remain clean.
I had found this to be a very thoughtful addition to the Pråper, from Gaston Luga.
Pråper, My New Favourite Travel Backpack
So I’d say that I will definitely continue to use my Gaston Luga Pråper backpack, and it’s probably going to become my favourite travel backpack, too, with its sheer roominess and its ability to squeeze plenty of things inside.
Since I always need big bags when I travel – the bigger the better, this means that the Pråper is simply perfect for me.
