Singapore Kindness Movement recently launched Overcome as One at the Our Tampines Hub, in a bid to rally Singaporeans to be more understanding and kind to each other during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Singaporeans must stand together
Says William Wan, General Secretary, Singapore Kindness Movement, “The fight against Covid-19 is not just about medicine and washing your hands. It is about Singaporeans standing together and treating each other with kindness and empathy to tide over these tough times.”
Overcome as One event
The event featured booths by Ground-Up Movements (GUMs) that encouraged the public to appreciate frontline workers while pledging support for the Overcome As One movement.
One such movement had been Contribute SG, which set up a booth to collect and re-distribute Covid-19 essentials such as hand sanitisers, masks and alcohol wipes to those on the frontline as well as the needy.
Said Jonathan Tan, co-founder, Contribute SG “It was heartwarming to see Singaporeans stepping forward to contribute towards this cause. That shows Singaporeans will band together in times of crises.”
At the event, members of the public, as well as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance and Adviser to Tampines Grassroots Organisations, Heng Swee Keat, showed their support by signing the Overcome As One gesture in Singapore Sign Language, after having been taught by Deaf associates at the event.
As well, the event also had a video booth for visitors to record words of appreciation towards frontline workers, and it was facilitated by another GUM, Stand With You SG.
Companies to band together to support
Companies such as Starbucks, Grab and Caltex are also banding together to support the Overcome As One campaign.
Caltex will be distributing car decals to patrons at Caltex petrol stations and Grab are distributing the decals to their drivers.
Starbucks are wearing the Overcome As One badge to show their solidarity and takeaway cups are also being adorned with the Overcome As One sticker at stores islandwide.
Singaporeans are appreciative of our frontline staff
Said Wan, “Overcome As One is about overcoming fear and anxiety by being a caring, cohesive and confident society. It also shows that Singaporeans are appreciative of our frontline staff and we thank them for keeping us safe. Together we can be greater and overcome as one.”
