In Singapore where I live, we’re still fortunate enough to be able to go outdoors to run and workout, but residents in many countries that are now on lockdown due to the Covid-19 coronavirus do not have the luxury to leave their homes to exercise.
As well, not everyone may have access to a treadmill or to a set of weights or exercise equipment at home.
So then, during the Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown, what exercises can you do to stay fit and keep yourself healthy? Here are some quick suggestions.
Push Ups
This is a great full-body workout but in order to gain the most benefits from push-ups, make sure that you have the correct form.
To do a correct push up, your shoulders, spine and hips should be aligned in a straight line and you should not be slouching or hunched; otherwise this will break down your form and increase your risk of unwanted injuries.
Burpees
Another excellent and explosive full-body exercise, doing burpees are guaranteed to get you sweating and panting in no time at all, providing that your form is correct and should not be breaking down at any point. If you are getting tired while doing the exercise, stop doing it and try again the next day. Continuing on and doing sub-par burpees may increase your risk of injuries.
Sit Ups
A great core exercise for runners, sit-ups are easy to do at home and they are an excellent way to work up a sweat and get your muscles on fire. Try and challenge yourself and see how many sit-ups you can do in one minute and try to increase this every day.
Squats
Another great body-weight exercise that gets your core muscles and your legs on fire, squats are a great way to not only stay fit, but to strengthen your core muscles as long as your form is good. For proper squats, focus on slow, steady movements when you do squats and do not rush the exercise.
If you want to make this harder, try doing jump squats, where you complete each repetition with a small leap into the air. This will work your explosive power as well as your body strength.
Jumping Jacks
These are simple to do and are guaranteed to leave you panting in no time. Begin by challenging yourself on how many jumping jacks you can complete in one minute.
You might struggle at first due to the intense nature of the exercise, but as the days go by, you’ll find yourself being able to complete more repetitions. As well, this will help with your running too, when you are able to get out there and run again.
Conclusion
During the Covid-19 pandemic, there is no reason to neglect your daily exercise routine.
Incorporating these into your daily regime will help to improve your running and strengthen your body at the same time. So why not give the above exercises a go?
