Teams and fans attending this year’s HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens at the Singapore Sports Hub this year, can look forward to a winning line up of rugby themed and classic Singaporean dishes.
Prepared by the team at SATS Delaware North, master caterers for the Singapore Sports Hub, the menu on offer has something for everyone from the hungriest forward to the sleekest back, with an array of filling delights that reflects the cosmopolitanism of both the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series and Singapore.
Said SATS Delaware North Executive Chef Garry Edgley, “For the Singapore Sevens, we try to bring in a nice cross section of cuisines from all over the world from Australia to South Africa as well as local favourites for foreign visitors who want to sample what is popular here in the region.”
He added, “Singapore is a real melting pot, so we try to bring in a little bit of everything to keep all of our visitors happy at the stadium.”
The menu consists of ten International and local delicacies that will whet the appetites of rugby fans and keep them primed to enjoy two days of non stop rugby action and entertainment at the Singapore Sports Hub.
One such item is the Homemade beef sausage rolls topped with tomato chutney – a staple of rugby clubs and pubs all over the world and a traditional favourite at rugby stadium in Australia. This is perfectly crispy on the outside and has a rich serving of minced beef inside as well as tomato chutney to add some Singaporean spice to the occasion.
For the South Africans, there will be Boerewors Sausage with grilled onions. This sausage is a staple of braais (barbecues) in South Africa and will be a favourite of the large contingent of South African fans expected to come to the stadium at the weekend.
To cater to the palettes of the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens defending champions Canada and their fans, there will be Poutine – a Canadian speciality, which is French fried potato topped with pulled pork in its own gravy. The Poutine will be slow cooked in the oven for 12 hours with French fries piled high with gravy laden pulled pork and a soupçon of chopped spring onions on the top.
The United States team and their fans can look forward to Chicago beef brisket roll with cheese and mixed pickles and Spanish fans can expect a mouth watering Churros platter coated in cinnamon sugar and chocolate sauce.
Singaporean favourites such as Soto ayam soup garnished with bean shoot, shredded chicken, spring onion, potato cake and dried shallot and Murtabak served with curry sauce, prawn laksa, satay chicle and wok fried seafood topped with chilli crab will be available too.
These offerings are only a fraction of the wide array of food and beverages on offer during the tournament weekend. So those who are attending the rugby action can truly expect a makan feast for the senses.
