Global payment network system UnionPay has announced that they will be a premium sponsor of the International champions cup 2018 in Singapore.
The International Champions Cup is the leading global pre-season tournament in the world, featuring three of Europe’s top football clubs and some of the world’s biggest football talents.
The 2017 edition of the International Champions Cup that took place last summer in Singapore, had featured German side FC Bayern Munich, Italians FC Internazionale and English team Chelsea FC, all vying for top honours at the National Stadium.
Watched by 140million people from 170 countries around the world, the tournament will be taking place at the National Stadium once again, and Singapore is the tournament’s only stop in South East Asia.
Said Vincent Ling, Deputy General Manager, UnionPay International South East Asia, “We are thrilled to be a premium sponsor of the International champions cup 2018 in Singapore – the most exciting football tournament in Singapore this year. Football has the amazing ability to transcend boundaries, bringing people of all languages and nationalities together, akin to how we connect people, businesses and financial institutions via our global payments network, UnionPay.”
Last year’s edition of the event had brought together more than 100,000 football fans across the world in the National Stadium during the five day tournament.
And this year, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever, bringing back some of football’s biggest clubs and brightest stars to grace the National Stadium once again with world class football action.
As a football fan, I simply can’t wait to see what is in store at this year’s edition of the tournament.
Said Ned Negus, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Catalyst Media Group Ltd, the organisers of the event, “International Champions Cup is a global event that strives to be locally engaged and relevant wherever it goes. Partnering with fast growing and authentic Asian brands like UnionPay International is key to our strategy to bring the tournament closer to fans across the Asia-Pacific and enhance their experience together.”
As a premium event sponsor, UnionPay will be offering exclusive privileges to cardholders from Singapore, South east Asia and around the world, giving them special access to catch the action live.
Said Jean Ng, Director, Sports, Singapore Tourism Board, “This partnership between UnionPay and Catalyst Media Group would help reach out to more football fans from South East Asia and beyond, and increase the appeal of the International Champions Cup, as well as Singapore as a vibrant regional sports and entertainment hub.”
