As the Official Hotel accommodation for the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens 2019, Pan Pacific Singapore recently welcomed the world’s top national teams from 16 countries including Argentina, Australia, England, Fiji, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and Wales.
Situated at the heart of Marina Bay
Located in the heart of Marina Bay and with easy access to world-class shopping, Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the Central Business District, Pan Pacific Singapore offers 790 contemporary rooms and suites that are ideal for business or leisure.
And hosting the athlete at the Pan Pacific Singapore is a massive and well-coordinated effort from everyone involved in the endeavour.
Logistics Needs
Taking care of the logistical needs of the rugby teams is Banquet Operations Manager Agus Ilham, who has to send cartons of water to players’ rooms and the teams’ respective meeting rooms each day – to prevent dehydration in Singapore’s heat and humidity.
Throughout the tournament, this involves 9,600 bottles of water and 4,080 bottles of isotonic drink.
As well, Ilham is in charge of setting up ice baths to prepare the athletes for their next session after each hard round of training.
And this involves 1,400kg of ice throughout the duration of the tournament in Singapore.
Resting Requirements
And to make sure that the players have a conducive environment for resting, Housekeeping Operations Manager Soheb Akhtar, needs to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the hotel rooms and public spaces.
Aside from ensuring that the rooms are clean and the amenities replenished on a daily basis, he must also provide clean towels to the players.
Altogether, 18,900 pieces of towels are required and the rooms have to be made up a total of 1,806 times.
Food And Dietary Needs
As food is crucial for good athletic performance, Executive Sous Chef Gan Swee Lai, the man tasked to head up the meal preparations of the players, is devising meals that are high on protein including beef, poultry, fish and eggs as well as fruits such as bananas and watermelons, to ensure optimum nutrition for high performance and recovery.
Altogether 16,000 eggs, 570kg of beef, 385kg of fish, 320kg of poultry, 700kg of potatoes, 880kg of bananas and 300kg of watermelons are required to feed the 16 teams of rugby players throughout their stay.
Pan Pacific Singapore Rugby Decals
And to further hype up the atmosphere of the sport, Pan Pacific Singapore is also decked out in a series of decorations tied to rugby – to demonstrate the passion and beauty of the game that unites fans worldwide.
These include rugby themed decals at the main lobby entrance as well as a centrepiece dedicated to rugby at the hotel lobby.
As well, hotel guests at Pan Pacific were also given a chance to enter a recent contest – with the winner walking away with two pairs of tickets to the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens and three sets of dining experience for two at Hai Tien Lo.
The contest had been held from 4 to 9 April and guests only needed to count the number of rugby balls plastered on the hotel’s indoor bubble lift to stand a chance to win.
And this contest concluded with the rugby teams arriving at the hotel, being warmly welcomed by young local rugby players and sports fans, as well as Steven Laine, who is the Resident Manager at Pan Pacific Singapore.
