She has run many full marathons and ultras – without showing any fear.
But for Chew Shu Fen, modelling is a completely different story altogether. So the 26-year-old marketing executive was understandably nervous when she was called upon to take to the catwalk yesterday – for the first time in her life.

Modelling clothes is nerve-wracking
Said Shu Fen on her maiden catwalk experience, “It was quite fun, but more nerve wracking than running a marathon – because everyone is watching you on the catwalk! But at least it was sports attire, so I felt more casual and comfortable in it – not like wearing heels.”
She added that she would also prefer to run a marathon or an ultra anytime – if she were given a choice between distance running and modelling.
New SCMS themed outfits by adidas
Shu Fen was one of the eight Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) pacers who were modelling the new Adidas SCMS themed outfits, at the Marina Bay Sands adidas store, yesterday.
These new SCMS themed outfits comprise the adidas performance range – a SCMS Supernova Short Sleeve Top and SCMS Shorts, as well as a set of Singapore Merlion and Map casual wear tee shirts – to celebrate the return of the SCMS-adidas partnership.
These tee shirts come in vibrant city colours, such as purple, light blue and orange. Said Petr Stastny, 35, the Head Of Running for South East Asia and the Pacific at adidas, “We wanted the clothes to be exclusive and unique. The orange and deep purple colours are really outstanding. So you will not find ordinary colours in the performance range, for both the tops and bottoms.”
He added, “For the lifestyle pieces, we focused our design on the city and nation of Singapore. So you can see elements of Singapore in the tee shirts, such as the inspirational lion – because Singapore is known as the Lion City, after all.”
The new adidas range will be available at selected stores, including Marina Bay Sands.
Comprises of adidas Climacool™ technology
The apparels have the adidas Climacool™ technology, to keep runners cooler and drier throughout the run. As well, the Supernova Short Sleeve top is designed with the unique ForMotion® technology, which improves comfort and enhances runners’ mobility.

Tee shirts are very comfortable and the designs are unique
On the light blue casual wear tee shirt that she had been wearing, Shu Fen said, “The top feels very comfortable because it’s soft cotton material. The design is also very nice, and the Singapore touch is good. Not a lot of branded shirts like adidas have a Singapore theme, so I liked this new idea.”
Agreed fellow pacer, 28-year-old sales manager Keith Chan, who was modelling the purple Supernova Short Sleeve top and the SCMS shorts, “The colours are very nice. As well, the design is also very different to most running apparel, as it there is more of a lifestyle appearance incorporated into the clothes. So apart from wearing it for running, you can also wear it to the shopping centre – and that would look great. It’s like a two-in-one piece of clothing.”
SCMS Shoes that Literally Light up the Night

Besides the SCMS apparel, adidas also launched the SCMS Supernova Glide boost (Limited Edition) shoes, the SCMS Pacer Cap and the SCMS Drink Bottle.
The standout feature of the SCMS Glide boost shoes is that they light up the night – literally. Explained Petr, “If you take a picture of these shoes with a flash, you’ll see that the whole shoe actually lights up. They will also glow in the dark. That is where our inspiration is coming from. Singapore is very nice during the daytime, but it is even more beautiful when it is lit up at night. So to celebrate the beauty of the night, we came up with these limited edition shoes.”
He added, “This is the first shoe that is inspired by Singapore city. It is also the first shoe that has the features of Singapore city and this is on the hashtag #boostSG which is printed on the shoe. The SCMS logo is also on the heel area of these shoes.”
Upon taking a picture of the shoes, both with and without flash, yours truly did indeed notice a difference – with the flash on, some areas of these black coloured shoes turned white. The effect was just like magic.
And Shu Fen was completely awed by this novel feature too. At the store, she was really marvelling at the shoes and taking pictures of them – with her flash. “The design of the shoes is very nice – as usual, for adidas,” she said.

Launch comes ahead of Singapore’s marquee running event this year
The launch of the new range of SCMS adidas apparel and shoes comes ahead of Singapore’s marquee running event, which is set to take place on Sunday 7 December 2014.
Said Lawrence Robertson, Commercial Director for Spectrum Worldwide, “We are very proud and incredibly excited to be working with adidas on this race and in producing this new range of adidas sports apparel. This has been a great journey so far and we are looking forward to the SCMS event, which will take place in four weeks time.”
