ASICS Relay 2018: Final Leg to be held in Singapore on 20 October

Recognising the massive popularity of running in Asia, the ASICS Relay encourages all aspiring runners and fitness explorers from all walks of life to attempt their first marathon by taking turns to run a quarter of the distance.

This in turn, celebrates movement and focuses on the motivational strengths of teamwork, bonding and unity, instead of individual endurance.

And come 20 October, for the fourth year in a row, the ASICS Relay in Singapore will reflect the ASICS brand message embodying movement, brought to life in 2017 by the I Move Me campaign.

A modern interpretation the ASICS founding statement, Sound Mind, Sound Body, this is a global message which sets out to inspire everyone to get active and move beyond their doubts.

And ASICS believes that such movement connects people and this in turn, creates an unstoppable motion – which spins off to feed greater and better changes.

This message will be further celebrated in the event activities and race-pack items at the ASICS Relay Singapore, thus showcasing the athletic spirit of all Singaporeans and inspiriting the whole country to move.

The 2018 edition of the Singapore race will be taking place at a brand new location of Palawan Beach, Singapore’s Sentosa Island, and the flag off time will be at 8pm in the evening.

For the ASICS Relay Singapore, teams of four members each, can register in the All-Male, All-Female and Mixed team categories, in either two or four race categories, the Full Marathon Team Relay (42km) or the Half Marathon Team Relay (21.1km).

The Early Bird registration rates begin from SGD220 for the 42km Full Marathon Team Relay and SGD180 for the 21.1km Half Marathon Team Relay.

In the relay, team members take turns to run either two legs of 5.25km for the Full Marathon or one leg of 5.25km for the Half Marathon.

Each runner will hand off the relay token to the next runner within the designated transition zone to mark the changeover of runners with the final runner completing the race at the finish line.

Do note that the cut-off time is 6 hours for both the Half Marathon and the Full Marathon categories though. As well, there may be staggered cut-off times at selected sections of the roads for the safety of all runners. More details on this will be released closer to race-day.

I took part in the ASICS Relay last year together with my three girlfriends from the Coached Running club and we had a really great time there – with plenty of food and entertainment to keep us occupied when we had been waiting for our team mates to complete the run.

Last year’s event had begun and ended at the Singapore Sports Hub and we were taken on a scenic route around the park connectors in the area. So with this year’s race happening at Sentosa, it will be a brand new running route, for both regular and new participants alike, of the ASICS Relay Singapore.

The runner entitlements for the ASICS Relay Singapore include an exclusive ASICS Branded Race Tee, Personalised Race Bib with a timing chip as well as an ASICS Relay Race Pack stuffed with sponsors’ goodies in it.

As well, runners are also entitled to a unique ASICS Relay token as well as a Finisher Medal for their respective category, which will be collected on race night.
