I consider myself very lucky to have known Chan Meng Hui as a friend.
Aged 89 when he had passed away from pneumonia a few years back, Chan picked up running when he was in his 50s, and continued engaging in the sport well into his 80s.
Achieved his goal
He had completed 101 full marathons in the process, successfully achieving his life goal of running 100 marathons.
His achievements, from his early days to his running career and adventures, are all chronicled in my latest book, which tells about the biography of this inspirational runner, written in my standard journalistic style.
Meeting and getting to know Chan
I first met Chan around 2013, with the intention of interviewing him for a blog post, and we soon became friends after that, regular catching up for chit chats, makan and coffee sessions.
I was also fortunate to have attended several of Chan’s birthday parties, which gave me the opportunity to get to know some of his other running buddies and friends, some of whom I have also interviewed in my latest book to glean more insights on Chan.
Always the gentleman, Chan was cheerful and witty, with a vibrant personality and a kind heart. He spoke perfect English and traversed Singapore on his motorbike. He was truly unlike any octogenarian I had ever met before.
Chan’s tips and advice
The book ends with tips and advice from Chan, where you will get to find out what made him tick and some words of running wisdom from this seasoned marathoner. Regardless of whether you are an experienced runner or a beginner, I can guarantee that you will have something to learn from Chan.
