Coached Opens New Lab and introduces functional and strength training classes

I have shared several posts to date about Coached, the running training programme that I am with, and how they have helped me to run many personal bests over the years.

Coached has helped me

Coached has helped me achieve several breakthroughs in my own running, most recently a 1hr 47min hilly half marathon in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last November and a 3hr 42min full marathon in Osaka, Japan, in February. 

These are timings that I never imagined I would be able to run, prior to joining Coached. 

Coached Lab 

Besides having an online training programme for both runners and triathletes, Coached also has a lab where they conduct and provide professional diagnoses and testing services with results that let you track your progress.

Types of tests available at the Coached Lab include Lactate, Fat Burn, VO2 Max and Sweat testing services. All these testing are important for optimum performance for athletes in their own way. 

Formerly the domain of elite athletes, the Coached Lab makes these sport science testing services accessible to everyone, regardless of whether you are a recreational runner or a seasoned elite. 

New Lab Location 

Recently the Coached Lab moved to a new location at Robinson Road in the CBD.

To mark the move, they had a small launch event cum open house, where we caught up and chatted over food and wine. 

The company was great fun and the churros were good. I saw many familiar faces I see regularly and also caught up with many others whom I have not seen in a while.

The new lab, located within the SBF Medical Suites, is a very nice and cosy space. The design of the space and its aesthetics are warm, inviting and airy, definitely a place that welcomes you as you step inside. 

While there, I also chatted to Ben Pulham, the founder of Coached, on the new lab opening and what New developments Coached now has to offer for athletes on the programme. 

Said Ben, “So this space is a little bit bigger than our previous Lab, which was literally just across the road. We were sharing the old space with a couple other people, but now we have our own. We have a more dedicated functional strength area and more equipment. It’s generally the nicest place so far, I think.” 

New developments and classes 

Ben also shared more about the Coached performance testing programmes and the new functional training sessions that Coached has just begun offering.

Said Ben, “A lot of runners get hurt through structural and biomechanical imbalances and strength training is a great remedy to that.”

Strength and mobility classes and runs 

Coached’s strength training will be offered in the following classes.

  • Strength: Designed to help endurance athletes build muscle power, increase fatigue resistance, and enhance overall durability.
  • Mobility: Designed to improve overall mobility and range of motion in the key muscle groups used by runners, triathletes, and cyclists.
  • Prehab: Focuses on improving muscle balance and increasing overall mobility.

In addition, Coached’s Speed Run sessions, which have generally been offered since the beginning, will now be at a brand new location at the MOE (Evans) Stadium. These are high intensity interval training runs and are typically led by Ben himself.

Become a better athlete 

I have been training with Coached myself now since 2016 and I will definitely testify that you should join them if you want to improve your performance. 

Said Ben, “Come along, do some testing. We can give you the results. We can then interpret your data and you can apply it to your training so that hopefully you will become a better athlete.”
