At the Cold Storage Kids Run 2017 Expo and Race Pack Collection at Leisure Park Kallang over the past couple of days, children enjoyed the time bonding with their parents through games and learning more about healthy eating.
Asia’s first kids focused running event
Asia’s first kids focused running event, the Cold Storage Kids Run is a mainstay on Singapore’s sports calendar. Started in 2008, it is the only running event focused on kids and has attracted more than 48,000 children and over 128,000 parents and supporters. The theme this year is “Going Places, Healthy Paces” and aims to encourage kids to lead an active lifestyle and eat healthy from a young age.
Lucky kids took part in the Healthy Lunch Box Contest
Together with taking photos with Cold Storage mascot Appleton, some lucky kids also participated in the Healthy Lunch Box Contest, which was held twice a day. The contest saw 15 pairs of parent-child teams creating a healthy Lunch Box using fresh fruits and ingredients from Cold Storage – within 30 minutes. Participants were judged based on creativity, taste, visual appeal, ease of participation and choice of healthy ingredients. Participants walked away with a Cold Storage goodie bag, as well as a special “I am a Sandwich Maker” badge. The best two teams won Cold Storage shopping vouchers.
Winning the contest was Thaswika Vanisri from Chongzheng Primary School, who took part with her mother. Their lunch box was filled with cucumbers, bite-sized tomatoes and a cheese sandwich decorated with a lettuce wrap that resembled Cold Storage mascot Appleton. It won over judges for its creativity and great mix of fresh ingredients.
Said Narayana, Thaswika’s mother, “The Healthy Lunch Box Congest is a wonderful new addition to the Cold Storage Kids Run. It gives parents and children the chance to do something fun and meaningful together. As parents, we want our kids to lead an active lifestyle and to understand how to eat healthy from a yong age. My daughter has taken part in the Cold Storage Kids Run since 2010, before she could even walk.”
Looking forward to her eighth Cold Storage Kids Run
Thaswika is looking forward to taking part in her eighth edition of the run. Her first Cold Storage Kids Run had been in a baby stroller pushed by her mother. She said, “I am so excited that this year’s race is at Sentosa. I look forward to spending time with my parents and enjoying the beach. I am turning eight years old in June and I hope my parents will bring me to KidZania after the run.”
Run to be held on Sentosa for the first time
The run, for the first time, will be held at Sentosa’s Palawan Green. Kids will get free admission to Sentosa together with four family members. The family will also enjoy privileges at attractions such as KidZania, Madame Tussauds, Mega Adventure, 4D AdventureLand, Go Green Segway and discount vouchers for retail outlets on the island.
