Kenyan distance runner Dennis Kimetto ran the fastest marathon in history – by completing the 2014 Berlin Marathon during the weekend, in a mind-blowing time of two hours two minutes and 57 seconds.
He had smashed the previous world record, set at the same race last year by fellow Kenyan marathoner Wilson Kispang, by a staggering 26 seconds at the same Berlin course. Kispang’s previous record had stood at two hours three minutes and 23 seconds.
Kimetto wore super lightweight adidas shoes for the feat
Kimetto had set the world record wearing the super lightweight adidas adizero Adios BOOST shoes.
Said Adrian Leek, General Manager of adidas Running, “Dennis’s world record breaking performance while wearing adidas BOOST demonstrates the result of elite athletes using industry leading innovation to achieve unprecedented feats.”
“We continue to push the boundaries by working closely with our athletes to develop the best products that running has to offer,” he added.
Second place men’s finisher also wore adidas BOOST shoes
The adidas BOOST shoes was also on the feet of second place men’s finisher, Emmanuel Muthai, who had also bettered Kispang’s previous record, by running the marathon in two hours three minutes and 13 seconds.
These record-breaking feats in Berlin contribute to a long line of success for the adidas Adios BOOST following its introduction last year. Former world record holder, Kispang, also ran a course record at the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon using the adidas Boost shoes.
