The 2016 edition of FairPrice Walks with U took place this morning at the Singapore Sports Hub.
An annual event, the 4km Fairprice Walk has the aim of promoting social cohesiveness amongst Singaporeans of all walks of life, by showing that people can get together regardless of their age, religion or race. At the same time, the event also hopes to be able to connect and bond multiple generations of families together.
With the 2016 theme being Making Lives Better through the Years”, the walkers were encouraged to live healthy lifestyles and at the same time to give back to others through sport.
Event took place at the Singapore Sports Hub
This morning, the participants began at Gate 3 of the 100PLUS Promenade at the Singapore Sports Hub, and they made their way out of the Singapore Sports Hub, before heading around the grassy field and subsequently returning back at the Sports Hub, with the finishing point for the walk being at the OCBC Square.
Though the 8am start meant that the weather was a little on the hot side toward the end of the leisurely walk, many of the walkers still had plenty of fun and enjoyed themselves.
Said engineer Chong Chee Hoe, “It was quite enjoyable and fun. I was there with my girlfriend and we had some great couple time and were quite relaxed. Unfortunately the weather was a little hot though.”Weather was hot, but a fun event
IT manager Simon Lau, 43, who was there with his parents, also shared Chong’s sentiments. He said, “Though the weather was a bit hot towards the end and there were a couple of bottlenecks due to construction.”
He added, “My parents had also loved it and they were taking many photos along the way.”Red Bull was served around the 2.5km mark of the Walk and at the end point, there was a carnival complete with plenty of varieties of food and drink available. These had included 100PLUS, red bull and even Marigold milk.
Carnival site with lots of food and drinks available
Said Lau, “I loved the booths with free things, especially the red bull, 100PLUS and oatmeal biscuits.”
Chong however thought that the carnival site was a little bit tight though, due to the large crowds present. He said “The carnival was a bit cramped compared to the last few editions, and there appeared to be more people at this year’s event too.”
Earlier editions of the event had taken place at the Marina Barrage area.
Would come back again
But overall, both Lau and Chong had thought that it was a good and fun event, which they would come back again to, together with their loved ones.
