The 15th edition of the popular Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) will take place this November – in an all-new virtual format.
After the cancellation of last year’s 2020 race due to the Covid-19 pandemic and to mark the return of the 2021 event, runners will lead a fund-raising initiative where monies will go towards underprivileged women in the society.
The last GEWR event took place in 2019.
Fund-raising initiatives
This charity, Daughters Of Tomorrow (DOT), aims to empower women by helping them achieve financial independence to support their families and is a new beneficiary backed by GEWR this year.
GEWR is also supporting the Breast Cancer Foundation and members of the public can choose one of the two causes to support via the Great Eastern Cares fundraising pages.
How to clock your miles
From 14 November – 15 December, members of the public will take part in the GEWR by clocking miles via a mobile app. There are five race categories to choose from, including a special 113km category to commemorate the company’s 113th anniversary this year.
The other categories are the 5km, 10km, 21.1km and the 2km Mummy + Me for mothers and daughters aged between five to 12 years old.
Registration fees
Registration fees for all of the individual categories begin at S$22 and runners will receive an Adidas Adult Race tee, a real Finisher Medal exclusive to their category, a Kraft bag, a Finisher E-Certificate and a Finisher E-Medal.
Prices of the the 2km Mummy + Me category begin from S$38.
The 113km category can be clocked either individually or in teams of between two to four ladies, in a single run or multiple runs throughout the time period.
Monthly challenges and tips
A series of monthly challenges from now till November will be conducted to prepare runners and encourage ladies to increase their miles and improve on their pace, via the event’s official MOVE by Liv3ly App.
Coaches, athletes, physiotherapists and nutritionists will also come on board to share tips with participants.
Going Green
GEWR is also set to go green, with the elimination of single-use plastics in race packs and finisher entitlements, to make an impact towards a greener and more sustainable world.
Said Colin Chan, Managing Director, Group Marketing, Great Eastern, “as one of the first ladies-only runs in Singapore, we celebrate the resilience and tenacity of women. This is our marquee event which promotes healthy living and wellness, reminding ladies that physical and financial wellness are important in life.”
“This year, we are back, as a virtual run and hope to do our small part to contribute to a “green” world by keeping sustainability and environmental consciousness at the top of our minds, incorporated into how we created our race packs and medals to make a difference.”
