Great Eastern Women’s Run: Launch Event 2024

The 18th edition of the Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) was officially launched on Tuesday and attending the event was Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State, Ministry Social and Family Development and Home Affairs, as well as Mr Khor Hock Seng, Group Chief Executive Officer, Great Eastern.

The GEWR 2024 will take place on Sunday 27 October at the Singapore Sports Hub and it is Singapore’s largest women’s only running event.

Women started queuing for slots from 6:15am. Registration opened at noon. This was because the first 116 in queue received free race slots to run, and the first 1,000 ladies to queue received an attractive goodie bag worth $125. Many familiar faces and friends whom I recognised from previous editions of the run were queuing up at the launch. It was good to see them all.

At the launch event, a 10-woman team kicked off the event by raising $10,099 through running on treadmills for a total of 10 minutes. $1 was donated for every meter covered during the launch. 100% of proceeds will be donated to charity.

The two charities that the event is supporting are Daughters of Tomorrow and the Singapore Cancer Society. At the launch event, Minister of State Sun ran alongside representatives from Great Eastern, 100PLUS, Daughters of Tomorrow and Singapore Cancer Society as well as elite runners to mark the opening of race registration and the beginning of the fundraising campaign which will end on 29 September.

Building on the success of last year’s event which saw over 9,000 participants, GEWR this year will feature six categories and these are as follows.

The by-invite-only 21.1km half marathon for local elite runners
The 21.1 km half marathon, 10km and 5km runs for members of the public
The 2km ‘Mummy and Me’ run for ladies with daughters aged five to 12
The 100m Princess Dash for 3- to 6-year-olds.
