Flagging off at the F1 Pit Building on 26 April 2020, Income Eco Run 2020 is now open for registrations.
Building on past efforts to promote the green cause
As the message to reduce waste reverberates internationally, Income will continue to build on past efforts to promote the green cause to reduce, reuse and recycle, serving as a platform to achieve the overarching goal of educating the community on leading a zero waste lifestyle and the importance of achieving sustainability.
To achieve this, three new key initiatives will headline the 2020 race, which also commemorates Income’s 50th anniversary. Said Marcus Chew, Chief Marketing Officer, Income, “As we celebrate Income’s 50th anniversary in 2020, we are proud to walk the green talk even more so in our journey towards zero waste. Every year we aim to further our cause and we are excited to see how these new initiatives will make a bigger impact in 2020.”
Eliminating of race packs
Firstly, Income Eco Run 2020 will eliminate race packs, which will result in a reduction of 630kg of production waste as will cease the production of 9,000 bags. Runners will instead be encouraged to bring their own reusable bags to collect their race entitlements.
Going Bib-Free
Secondly, the Zero Waste 5km Run and the Kids Dash will go bib-free. Instead, bib numbers will be printed directly onto running singlets, saving 2,250 bibs and paper wristbands for all Zero Waste Runners.
This move builds on the initiative of eliminating the usage of paper cups at these categories.
And once again too, Zero Waste Runners across all categories will be given a reusable cup for their hydration needs during the race. Participants who already have a reusable cup from previous events are encouraged to recycle their cup next year.
Produce bags given out at the finish
Thirdly, produce bags will be given out at the finish line for runners to hold their post-race entitlements of bananas and recovery drinks. Made of breathable mesh, these produce bags are designed for storing loose vegetables and fruit on grocery runs, in place of plastic bags.
Usage of Solar Energy
As well, Income Eco Run 2020 will be continuing to use solar energy to offset energy supplied by bio-diesel generators and will be powered by Singapore’s leading clean-energy provider, Sunseap.
The “Green Police” initiative
To encourage the public to raise awareness of championing a green lifestyle, a #CaughtGreenHanded initiative will be launched to encourage the public to celebrate environmentally friendly actions on social media.
With this initiative, event participants can act as the “Green Police” to snap videos and images of their friends and family carrying eco-friendly practices like bringing their own containers to take away food, or using their own reusable straws to further the green cause.
Said Marcus, “The Income Eco Run has always been a platform for change and education, thus we hope to inspire more people to take bold steps and make a commitment for a greener future.”
