The Income Eco Run is back on 26 May 2024 at the Marina Barrage, about a week ahead of World Environment Day on 5 June.
The event invites runners to run their distance of choice, expounding the challenge: how far will you go for zero waste? to drive climate positive awareness and actions among Singaporeans.
Income’s marquee event, runners can choose one of five routes: 3km, 5km, 10km, 15km and 21.1km and complete their preferred distance in support of a zero-waste lifestyle.
The route will take runners from the Marina Barrage through Singapore’s iconic landmarks such as the Singapore Flyer and the Gardens by the Bay. The finish point is the Income Eco Run race village where participants can engage in interactive and eco-friendly festivities.
To be even more inclusive, a Kids’ category is also being introduced this year and children aged between four to 12 years old are invited to run either 700m or 1km for the cause.
For every kilometre clocked at the Income Eco Run, Income will be matching one dollar in support of green initiatives. Last year, $40,000 was donated to the Singapore Environmental Council to contribute to tier diverse outreach and training programmes.
Running bibs this year will be 65% smaller than the industry standard to minimise material wastage. The bibs for the kids category will be made of seed paper which can be planted at home after the race, to grow flowers, fruits or vegetables. Plastic-free recyclable cups will be used at hydration stations unlike conventional paper cups which typically have a plastic lining that hinders recycling.
Income Insurance will offset the carbon footprint of the event tees and participants’ commute to the bib collection site and event site on race day. Event tees, which are available as an add-on purchase, are made from 100% recycled materials. Income Eco Run is the only mass participation event to promote reuse and reduce waste.
Commemorative medals will not be given out to reduce wastage, instead participants will receive e-certificates and can verify their personal best timings on the event website.
On race day, eco exhibits will be on display that showcase practical applications of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) such as turning PET bottles into blankets and a marketplace of diverse organic and zero waste products and food items such as meatless options that champion mindful consumption and responsible resourcing to reduce our collective environmental impact.
To educate participants about waste avoidance and efficient water usage, Income Eco Run will avoid all use-and-throw cutlery and will feature an organised washing system at the race village. The Marina Barrage will recycle the water used for washing from the event.
Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, is the guest of honour at the event. She will lead the 5km flag off at 7am and run 5km from the Marina Barrage to pledge her support for the cause.
Registration for Income Eco Run is open now at https://www.income.com.sg/ecorun and registration fees start from $45 for adults and $24 for children.
