Employees From Deloitte & Touche Win Race
And winning the race, in both of the male and female categories, were employees from Deloitte & Touche.
Melvin Wong Wins Male Category
In the male category, first to cross the line was Melvin Wong, with a finish time of 18 Minutes 24 Seconds.
Said Wong, “I’m ecstatic – my finish line photo says it all. Ten years ago, I would have expected to win and dominate this competition but I was humbled and failed in all my attempts to win. Now, would I still have expected myself to win? Definitely not – because I do not have that drive, fitness nor energy to achieve such a goal.”
Jasmine Teo Finishes As Top Female
And in the female category, Jasmine Teo had emerged as the winner, with a finish time of 22 Minutes 29 Seconds.
She said, “The JPMCC is really good. This is my fifth or sixth race and it brings all the corporates together for an evening of competition. Every year, there is someone faster, so I’m just really glad that I came in first this time around.”
Pre-Race Weather Was Not Ideal For A Run
Due to the Cat 1 thunderstorm warning and the threatening rain that had preceded this year’s race, Wong, though, admitted that the weather had not been ideal to get him in the right mood for the run.
He said, “I had a few slippages in the first one kilometre of the race, with the wet surfaces and several small turns. My boss did warn me of the slippery boards that acted as ramps and I had to cautiously navigate through these turns on top of the human traffic.”
Continued Wong, “I also almost went headfirst into another runner who suddenly cut into my path in the midst of the first 500-metre chaos. That definitely spiked my heart rate much earlier than I wanted to.”
Ran His Race Well
But that said, Wong was pleased that he managed to regain his composure and run his race well. He said, “There was no formal race execution but a simple application of race effort for an extended period of time. By race effort, I was pleased with being in control without compromising on my form.”
As well, the event emcees Kelly Latimer and Ross Sarpani, according to Wong, did a great job and as a result, this had made the race particularly memorable for him. Wong said, “The suspense of waiting to enter the start pen under the Cat 1 conditions and the super emcee’ engagement at the start and end of the race were great.”
Would Take Part Again
And Wong added that he would definitely take part in JPMCC again if the opportunity arose for him. He said, “JPMCC has always been a fantastic event to race and enjoy with fellow company mates and peers from other firms.”
Continued Wong, “The race is never easy but the accomplishment from emptying your tank out there on the course is truly satisfying.”
