If you have not yet joined forces with three of your friends to form a team and take part in the Mizuno Ekiden Run 2016, you will only have a few more days left to do so.
That is because registration for this year’s edition of the Mizuno Ekiden closes this Friday, 10 June with two race distances – the Full Marathon (Team of 4) and Half Marathon (Team of 4).
Here is more information about the registration rates, categories and race fees.
Takes place on 16 July
The 2016 event is taking place on the evening of 16 July at The Promontory @ Marina Bay, and runners will get to tuck into a line up of Japanese gourmet and cultural activities after they have finished their leg of the Mizuno Ekiden run.
Made its debut last year
The first full-fledged Ekiden race to hit Singapore, the Mizuno Ekiden had made its Singapore debut last year at the Gardens by the Bay, with teams of four runners completing either a Half Marathon or a Full Marathon.
A Japanese concept, Ekiden refers to a relay-style of long distance running, and aims to instil in runners, the core Japanese values such as perseverance, teamwork and the ability to perform in intense and challenging situations.
Lots of food and activities
I took part in the inaugural Mizuno Ekiden event last year, and besides the actual running, there had been plenty of scrumptious food available such as soup, ramen and rice, and drinks like green tea and ice cream floats at the race.
Games were also available on site to keep the runners entertained, including a mock sumo wresting competition that runners had been queuing up for, as well as some photo opportunities with a giant Mizuno shoe.
This year, runners can be exposed to a holistic Japanese experience at the Matsuri race village.
