The third edition of the Mizuno Ekiden – a relay styled long distance race – will feature a new category for Running Clubs.

Mizuno Ekiden 2017 will feature a new category for Running Clubs.

Provides a platform for competitive running clubs in Asia

Capping the capacity at 5,000 runners, the Running Club category aims to provide a platform for competitive running teams in Asia, to register for the race in teams of four and run towards the top prize of $2,200 worth of cash and vouchers.

The Running Club category is open to all running clubs in South East Asia that have been active for three months. All team members must be residents or permanent residents of an ASEAN country.

The Mizuno Ekiden 2017 takes place at The Promontory @ Marina Bay on 19 August, 4pm this year.

Excited to bring back the Mizuno Ekiden

Said Kiyoshi Tatani, President of Mizuno Singapore, “We are excited to bring back Mizuno Ekiden after a resounding success the past two editions. Moving into the third instalment of the race, we hope to use this platform to introduce a new category for running cubs. With this addition, we hope to further strengthen our position in the sports scene in Singapore, as well as in the region.”

Mizuno is excited to bring back the Ekiden relay race.

Mizuno Ekiden runners will take part in teams of four, and the first runner of each team will flag off while wearing a traditional tasuki sash. Upon completing his or her leg, the sash will be passed to the second runner at the transition area, and this will carry on till the fourth runner has finished the race.

The annual race strives to spur runners to display remarkable performance in intense and challenging situations while fostering friendships and showcasing commendable Japanese values such as perseverance, camaraderie and team work.

Runners can register in the Open, Corporate or Running Club categories

Runners can register, as teams of four, across the 42.195km Open category, 21.1km Open category, 21.1km Corporate Category and the Running Club category. Speedy teams can look forward to beat the timings from previous years and receive prizes in their respective categories.

Loyalty rates, which end on 2 April, start at $160 per team for the Open/Corporate 21.1km categories, and $180 for the 42.195km category. Loyal runner rates are exclusive to participants of the 2016 edition of the Mizuno Ekiden.

Bulk registrations of more than five teams, however, are eligible for special discounted rates.

Matsuri Race Village

After the race, runners will be treated to popular Japanese gourmet delights such as sushi, ramen and delicious desserts at the Matsuri race village. As well, a string of Japanese activities and performances await runners, and give them the chance to appreciate and enjoy all things Japanese.

A Matsuri Race Village awaits runners.

Entry to the Matsuri Race Village is also free for spectators and supporters.
