Taking place on 10 and 11 November this year at the Saphan Hin Park seaside park in Phuket, Thailand, the Phukethon 2018 is billed as Asia’s largest international marathon festival that welcomes runners from all over the world.
The 2018 event will be the second edition of Phukethon. Last year’s inaugural event had kicked off to plenty of success – and with more than 10,000 runners from all over the world taking part in the event.
A new dimension of world class sports tourism
An innovative sports tourism event, Phukethon hopes to represent a new dimension of world class tourism located in the heart of Phuket Island.
Running categories for everyone
With running distances ranging from 10km to 21.1km and 42.195km, Phukethon 2018 offers something for runners from all walks of life.
And according to the event organisers too, the courses are certified by the Athletic Association of Thailand (AAT), Asian Athletics Association (AAA) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). So they would be quite accurate.
Route to be challenging and scenic
Just like last year’s inaugural edition, the Phukethon running route promises to challenge runners to their limit and at the same time, to experience nature – with the event’s runners being tasked with conquering the hill from Rawai beach to “Promthep Cape” which has a height of 200 meters above sea level.
As well, other landmarks that runners will be passing through along the way, also include the old Sino-Portugese town and the Queen Sirikit Park, which are places that tourists normally do not frequent.
Fun Runs
And in addition too, there are fun events for those who are perhaps just starting out in running or else those who do not want something competitive, there are the Jelly Splash 5km Run and the Colour Fun Run.
These events are part of the Runtainment programme at the Phukethon and these take place the day before the Marathon.
Race Expo with more than 80 top brands
And moreover, coinciding with the race pack collection for Phukethon, there will also be an Expo with more than 80 different brands available at Saphan Hin Park too, so this means that runners who want to do some last-minute shopping for supplies will be able to do so.
Brands that are available include ASICS, Under Armour, Altera, On, HOKA One One, and Saucony. So this means that runners will certainly be spoilt for choice.
What to do at Phuket
Besides taking part in the race, you can also check out some of the main sights and sounds of Phuket Island, which include snorkelling at Coral Islands, as well as visiting the old Phuket Town, the Wat Chalong temple, Big Buddha and Patong Beach. Moreover, those who love animals can try out elephant trekking too.
Register for the Race
Runners who wish to take part in Phukethon can still register for the race.
For overseas runners, registration rates begin USD 45 for the 10km Race, USD 85 for the Half Marathon and USD 105 for the Marathon.
Thai runners on the other hand, are looking at THB 700 for the 10km Run, THB 1,200 for the Half Marathon and THB 1,500 for the Marathon.
