Puma, the official apparel and footwear sponsor of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM), invited media to preview their brand new ForeverRun Nitro performance shoes, as well as the upcoming Spring Summer 2023 (SS23) running collection.
Additionally, exclusive event Puma x SCSM merchandise featuring the official green and blue colorways of the race and brand logos, were also showcased at the launch event.
Took place at the Marina Bay Sands expo
The launch event took place at the Puma brand booth at the SCSM race expo at the Marina Bay Sands convention center.
Inspired by 2021 Olympic marathon bronze medallist Molly Seidel
To kick off the event, media and guests were treated to a zoom call with American marathoner and 2021 Olympic bronze medalist Molly Seidel, who is sponsored by Puma.
Said Molly, “Competing in my first Olympics, I knew I wanted a pair of shoes that could help me compete with the best of the best. What I saw with Puma’s Nitro collection made me think that I could go all the way with these shoes. It has been amazing to be a part of this journey with Puma, that I can show the world what I saw and experienced in these shoes. It was really good to see what these shoes could do. Puma’s Nitro series allowed me to go a lot faster, and ultimately, race faster.”
Molly also shared insights into her running, what makes her tick, and what her favourite Puma shoes are.
Said Molly, “My favourites are the Velocity and the Deviate. Those are my go-to shoes for every day of the week and I do my major workouts in them. For racing, I wear the Deviate Nitro elite. It is fun to see how Puma have improved on these from their first iteration of the shoe.”
Molly’s upcoming 2023 goals
Since winning the Olympics, Molly’s career has, however, taken a hit as she has been sidelined by injury and mental health issues. She said, “It is difficult physically and mentally, competing at the top levels so I am taking the time to recharge and remind myself of why I am doing this. Now I feel ready to go into 2023 to attack again and to go for some goals.”
For 2023, she has her sights set on a spring and fall marathon. Said Molly, “I have not had the chance to run flat and fast marathons so we are looking to do some races that are speeder to get that PR down and set myself up well for the Paris Olympics.”
Launching Puma’s new collection
Following Molly was a panel discussion featuring Erin Longin, General Manager, PUMA Run/Train and Anna Rothman, Head of Puma Run/Train Marketing. Both flew in from Boston to be at the Singapore event.
Said Erin, “Puma has a long history in running and track & field, with the brand focus directed more on road running. We decided to restart and relaunch our running products in 2021 with a reset of new technology that we believe in – Nitro. The backbone of our running shoes includes the Nitro technology, and no other brand apart from Puma has it in all our products.”
She added, “Understanding what runners, both competitive and everyday runners, need, is at the core of our brand. With this in mind, we wanted to create a product that fits everyone. That is how the ForeverRun Nitro was created.”
The ForeverRun Nitro
A large-scale wear test with 230 people, including both elite athletes and everyday runners, was conducted to come up with the ForeverRun Nitro line of shoes.
ForeverRun Nitro is a stability shoe that encourages an optimal running motion for everyone and every run. Providing an optimal running motion with a unique combination of cushioning through Nitro foam and enhanced guidance through the RunGuide System, the shoes seek to provide runners with an all-encompassing smoother and more comfortable running journey while helping to reduce the risk of injuries for runners.
