Review: Simple Hydration’s Larger 18oz (500ml) Running Water Bottle

For the past few years, I have been using the Simple Hydration Bottle to carry the fluids that I need to stay hydrated during my runs.

Always my go-to water bottle for running

What I like about the standard Simple Hydration bottle is, due to its contoured shape, it is very easy to cart along with me on my runs. It’s my go-to water bottle and since I was first introduced to it, I can’t see myself using any other bottle to run with anymore.

Since bringing the bottle around, I have also converted several other running buddies into Simple Hydration fans.

The standard Simple Hydration bottle carries 13oz, or 350ml of fluids.

But now recently, Simple Hydration came out with a bigger bottle, for those longer runs where you need more hydration or when the water fountains are further apart. This larger bottle is 18oz, or approximately 500ml.

Features of the larger bottle

Coming from Singapore, where it is hot and humid all year round, I was pretty intrigued by the sound of a larger bottle that can hold more fluid.

Featuring the same contoured shape as the original bottle that allows you to fit the bottle snugly in a waistband, race belt, pocket, shorts or sports bra, you can also easily tell from the small dots on the side how much liquid your big bottle contains.

And as well, the back side is designed to be smooth so that it rests easily against your skin thereby eliminates chaffing.

My experiences with the bottle

Since it had arrived in the post a few weeks ago, I have been using the 18oz bottle, and I have to say that despite my reservations that it would feel heavy and clumsy, the bottle has proven otherwise.

I usually tuck the bigger bottle into the waistline of my tights or shorts.

I did try to place it into my sports bra on one occasion, but unlike the smaller-sized bottle, the larger one didn’t really feel right there. The smaller one has always felt pretty comfortable in my sports bra.

Best put in your shorts or tights waistband

Tucked into my shorts, I have to say that the bigger bottle did feel slightly awkward at the beginning when I first put it in place.

But that said, I found that I was able to quickly get used to the bottle’s weight after a couple of minutes, upon when it begins to feel significantly more comfortable.

As such, I am able to run easily and fuss-free and can actually forget that the bottle is in my tights waistband, especially during the course of my run after I have drunk from it and it is no longer full to the brim.

I always carry Simple Hydration when I run

I carry Simple Hydration every time I run, alternating between the bigger and the smaller bottles.

To date, I have run up to the half marathon distance with the bigger Simple Hydration bottle and I have had zero issues with weight or discomfort.

I have never needed to shift the bottle around or move it during my runs.

With regards to chaffing, I have not had any major chaffing problems with the bottle firmly in position.

Not once does it bounce or move around. Just like its smaller counterpart, it hooks in place very well and I don’t think about it at all when I am running.

Simple Hydration have outdone themselves

I have to say that Simple Hydration has outdone themselves yet again with the big bottle.

I have definitely been enjoying my runs using the bigger 18oz bottle and I will continue to do so.
