Sudio’s latest completely wireless earphones, the Sudio Tolv comes with seven hours of battery life on a single charge, as well as a sleek and portable charging/storage case that provides four extra charges.
Also, the Tolv features a new graphene driver for top notch sound quality and automatically pairs with your phone.
Sleek and elegant earphones
Sudio recently sent me a unit of the Tolv earphones for review. The Tolv comes in two colours, black and white, and I opted for the black one, which I had thought seemed elegant and sophisticated.
A black Sudio tote bag arrived with the Tolv earphones too.
When the Sudio earphones arrived, I was pretty impressed at first glance; the box looked sleek and classy, with a clean, minimalist design on the front and the main highlights of the product on the back, yet without overloading the user with information.
And when I had initially opened up the package, the appearance was also very clean and uncluttered, with the Sudio Tolv occupying the top half and the accessories taking the space of the bottom half, within a clean, white box.
Within the accessories box, there is a user manual, as well as three ear tips of varying sizes and a micro-USB cable.
Taking the earphones out, I was quite impressed by how small the casing of the Sudio Tolv is, compared to that of Sudio’s earlier true wireless model, the Niva. In fact, I would estimate that it’s about half the size of the Niva casing.
This reduced size has been particularly great for me, as this meant that I could easily tuck the Tolv in its case into my pocket when I go for my workouts. So as a result, I don’t need to bring a bag with me anymore.
With the Niva, the large, round casing could never fit into any of my pockets. So I always needed to cart a bag along to my workout sessions.
Easy to Pair
Pairing the Sudio Tolv together with my iPhone XS Max for the first time via BlueTooth took about two to three minutes. The instructions in the manual are quite clear on how to make the initial pairing, but I had to try a couple of times before my iPhone was able to detect the Sudio earphones.
Once that had been made, though, subsequent connections were automatically picked up between the Sudio Tolv and my iPhone, with an announcement from the earphones to tell me that a connection has been made. I had thought that this was a good inclusion on Sudio’s part.
Taking out the Sudio Tolv
I have taken out the Sudio Tolv earphones out on several occasions since receiving them, including using them for a 5km run as well as a 10 Mile (16km) running race.
Lightweight and Comfortable
Inside my ears, I find that the Sudio Tolv are lightweight and comfortable and I can barely feel them when they are there. They also stay in place quite well.
This is great for me when I run with the Sudio Tolv, because it means I would generally do not need to worry or keep thinking about the earphones and whether they are going to drop out.
Tolv popped out
But there was one occasion when my ears got hot and sweaty halfway during my 16km race and the Tolv nearly did pop out, but I wedged it back into my ear just in time and then it didn’t cause any more problems after that for the remainder of my run.
Sound Quality
In terms of the sound quality, I thought that the Tolv is superior to Sudio’s Niva, with songs being clearer, fuller and more dynamic in general – this was probably because of the new graphene driver in the Tolv.
However, higher frequencies sounded slightly muted and low frequencies were also not quite up to par.
So I’d say that the Tolv is a great choice for casual listeners, that is, those who need music for their workouts or daily commutes, but if you are an audiophile who wants something more, then you may be disappointed with the Tolv.
Connectivity
The connectivity of the sound is also stable and does not drop; though there was one occasion when the earphones suddenly switched itself off and became silent when I was listening to music halfway; so I had to switch them on again with the Tolv still inside my ears. They worked again after that.
This had been so, despite the charge of the earphones being more than 50 per cent, so though I’m still not too sure why it happened, I can conclude that the switching off of the Tolv was not due to a low battery issue. It hasn’t happened since, though.
Battery Power
In terms of the battery power, though, the Sudio Tolv shines compared to other wireless earphones currently on the market.
That’s because with seven hours of battery life on a single charge, as well as an additional four charges with the case, this is easily more than enough power to last you throughout the week.
Charging the Tolv fully takes a few hours, and I realise that charging the Tolv requires you to dangle the case awkwardly from your micro USB port – rather than laying it flat, because of its design.
As well, the tiny white/red LED lights indicate the battery level of the Tolv as well as that of its charging case. If the lights are white on both devices, then it means that both are sufficiently charged, but if you see blinking red lights, then it means that you need to quickly go and charge your device.
And also, after I am done with them, when I put the Tolv earphones back into its case, I found that they will power off automatically, meaning that I do not need to manually turn them off after each use. So I find this to be rather convenient and fuss-free.
