Earlier, I blogged about my 1km run in support of the Run for Heroes.
Now, Run For Heroes is introducing two expanded categories this August to commemorate Singapore’s 55th National Day. As well, the closing date of Run for Heroes has been extended to 31st August so that runners have more time to clock the required distance.
Said Elvin Tng, Managing Director, Orange Room, the event organisers, “In the past few months, we have been encouraged by the support and love shown by our participants and their genuine desire to show appreciation to our front-liners.”
He added, “As we approach the month of August and Singapore’s 55th National Day, we decided to introduce new categories and extend the deadline to allow more members of the community to pledge their support for our hardworking front-liners as we come together to celebrate the strength of Singapore during these difficult times.”
The new categories were conceptualised to activate both the running community and those looking to dedicate more time and support for our front-line heroes. These also allow participants to reach out to as many front-liners as possible while raising more to donate to The Courage Fund.
Runners who sign up for either of the two new categories will receive additional entitlements, which are a personalised mask and a finisher t-shirt.
The 550km category can be signed up as a team of two, in order to complete the run collectively in the month of August.
Originally a 1km run, Run for Heroes is an initiative supported by SportSG’s Active Enabler programme grant and honours the role played by essential workers through the Covid-19 pandemic.
And over the past months, the support has been tremendous. In fact, it is not just individuals who have supported the Run For Heroes initiative.
Corporate organisations have also thrown their weight behind the initiative, such as Security & Risk Solutions Pte Ltd, and embassies such as the American Embassy and British high commission.
Said Amos Kng, CEO, Security & Risk Solutions Pte Ltd, “Covid-19 is showing no signs of abating. Front-Liners across a multitude of industries continue to dedicate themselves to keeping the country running and keeping us safe.”
He added, “Security & Risk Solutions, being a front-line organisation, has more than 300 security officers serving the community as well as the respective quarantine and recovery sites on a daily basis. We have been especially touched by the selflessness and willingness of our staff to go the extra mile for the company and the community. As such, we rallied the whole management to do this small bit for our front-liners.”
In doing so, Kng hopes that this will inspire more Singaporeans to join in and unite as one, behind the hardworking front-liners across Singapore.
