Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is Back

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) is back on 6 & 7 December this year. As South East Asia’s only World Athletics Gold Label race, this year’s event is will introduce a new two-day format upgrade that is set to enhance the experience for both runners and spectators. For the first time, the Half and Full Marathon will be held on separate days. This change is due to growing interest in the longer distance runs and at the same time, elevating the overall run experience for all.

The new schedule for SCSM is as follows.

  • Dec 6: Half Marathon, 5km, and Kids Dash – giving the Half Marathon its own hero day
  • Dec 7: Marathon, Ekiden, and 10km

SCSM 2024 was a record-breaking event with 55,000 runners from across the globe taking part.

Said Jeff Edwards, Managing Director of Asia for The IRONMAN Group, organisers of SCSM said, “SCSM has a long history of bringing together a global community of runners.”

He continued, “These adjustments, which have been thoughtfully planned, are aimed at creating a smooth flow throughout to ensure the best possible race experience for our runners. Thus allow for more runners than ever before to be a part of this event.”

Participation in the Marathon and Half Marathon categories grew by 31% and 46% respectively over the past three editions of SCSM.

This emphasises the passion for long distance running in Singapore and led to the decision to hold the half and the full marathon on separate days. With the new format, runners in both events can enjoy their own course and race-day atmosphere.

As well, this benefits 5km runners who will be able to flag off two hours earlier at 6:30am, thus enjoying the cooler temperature. The Kids Dash has also been moved from Friday evening to Saturday morning to bring young runners and their families into the middle of the event.

The Marathon route is set to showcase Singapore’s stunning landmarks to add to the run experience.

More information on the full route, finish line, and road closures will be given out closer to the event.

Said Lilian Chee, Director, Sports, Singapore Tourism Board, “Sports events bring people and passion together, and continue to be an integral part of our strategy to bring in quality events that appeal to both visitors and locals.”

She added,”SCSM gathers athletes from around the world, showcasing Singapore as a premier sporting capital. The growing number of international participants choosing to run the marathon here reflects the appeal of the Singapore experience.”

To give back to the community and similar to last year, Standard Chartered is offering 200 complimentary race slots to volunteers and running enthusiasts from community organisations  such as Special Olympics Singapore.

Leading up to SCSM 2025, Standard Chartered cardholders can, once again, eagerly anticipate the return of the popular Run-cation Promotion.
