This December, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) returns with a hybrid format for a second consecutive year. 

An in-person race at Marina Bay

The 2021 edition will feature a special series on the SCSM Virtual Club (VC): a Virtual Race Grand Finale that will take place on 1 – 12 December and an in-person race on 4 & 5 December at The Float @ Marina Bay.

The in-person race, for which registrations are now open, has a total of 4,000 slots for runners who are fully vaccinated or with a valid pre-event test result duration for the duration of the event. 

Celebrating Singapore’s resilience

Three categories are available: 5km, 10km and Toyota Ekiden (team of 4). 

At the in-person event, runners will take to the streets at Marina Bay in a show of strength and unity that celebrates Singapore’s resilience amidst the global pandemic. Safe Management Measures will be in place to safeguard the health and safety of event participants. There are no road closures in place.

Said Jeff Edwards, Managing Director for Asia for the IRONMAN Group, the event organisers, “We have been working closely with Sport Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board, StanChart Bank and all other stakeholders to explore the best way forward.” 

He continued, “As the uncertainty of the pandemic has continued, the race will once again be conducted in a hybrids format, as this prioritises the health and well-being of participants, community, supporters and employees, while still delivering an exciting event experience.”

VR Marathon to take place

To build up to the Grand Finale, the SCSM VC will host a VR Marathon where runners can complete the full marathon distance of 42.195km over multiple sessions.

The build-up to this will feature iconic running routes for participants to try out as part of their outdoor running sessions. 

More information on these routes will be released soon and participants will have the option of purchasing a limited-edition SCSM VR Marathon 2021 medal to commemorate their efforts.

How to register and make payment

Participants who are interested in taking part in the in-person events can register and make their payment at active.com. For those who wish to take part in the VR Marathon or VR Grand Finale events, they can register on the SCSM VC platform.
