In a boost to his bid to become the first man from Singapore to qualify for the Olympics Marathon, national distance runner Soh Rui Yong, 24, has signed a Five Year deal with Japanese shoe brand ASICS.
ASICS is pleased to welcome Soh
Said Kenji Oh, Marketing Director of ASIC Asia Pte Ltd, “We are pleased to welcome Soh Rui Yong into our ASICS family of athletes. We believe in his potential for Singapore athletics and are confident that our product will be able to give him the edge that he needs to complete at the highest level of long distance running.”
The deal will cover both the Rio 2016 Olympics as well as the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and ties in with Soh’s other sponsors supporting him on his journey to Rio.
Said Oh, “We are proud to be part of Soh’s 2020 Olympics journey and are excited with this new partnership. ASICS wishes him all the best of luck.”
Soh feels excited about ASICS’ efforts to grow the local running community
Soh is pleased with the new partnership. Said the runner, who is currently training in Portugal ahead of the London Marathon on 24 April, “ASICS is doing more to build the support in Singapore for sports than I have ever seen, and I am honoured to be a part of it.”
Added Soh, “I am looking forward to greater horizons ahead with ASICS and feel excited about their efforts to grow the running community in Singapore through projects like ASICS City Relay, Race the Tube and Beat the Sun.”
With the ASICS deal, Soh too, hopes that this will give him the edge that he needs to make the Olympic qualifying mark of 2 hours and 19 minutes, during the London Marathon.
