The popular Sundown Marathon in Singapore will make its return for the seventh year running – come 31 May. It is Singapore’s only full marathon – to be staged completely at night.
This year’s theme for Sundown Marathon is “Bring On The Night.
Unlike a typical marathon staged in the early hours of the morning, runners will be able to experience what it is like running under the twinkling stars as well as feeling the cool night breeze blowing against them.
And battles against the raging sun’s heat in Singapore are completely non-existent at Sundown Marathon, because runners will definitely be back at the starting point – long before sunrise.
Sundown Marathon has grown tremendously
The Sundown Marathon has well and truly grown rapidly, from 6,000 runners in its inaugural race in 2008, to an expected 30,000 runners in its seventh edition.
Categories for Sundown Marathon 2014
There are three categories in the Sundown Marathon.
You can choose to go for the jugular with the 42km full marathon signature event or challenge yourself with the 21km half marathon race.
You may give yourself a small taste of what it feels like to be running under the night sky – with the 10km run.
So in this way, Sundown Marathon appeals both to the veterans as well as the recreation runners.
Starts and Ends at the F1 Pit Building
As well, the race starts and ends at the F1 Pit Building, which also coincidentally happens to be the venue of Singapore’s “other” night race – the SingTel Singapore Formula One Grand Prix.
So this means that runners at Sundown Marathon can imagine themselves as Formula One racing cars speeding past the iconic pit garages, but on two “wheels.”
