The Sydney Marathon 2023 is taking place this coming Sunday 17 September.
A scenic and iconic event
Billed as one of the world’s most scenic events, the Sydney Marathon route gives runners the unique opportunity to traverse the Sydney Harbour Bridge on foot and the finish line is at the world famous Sydney Opera House.
This year is the first time that I will be taking part in the Sydney Marathon and I am participating in the full marathon distance.
I have been training for the race over the past few months and I am looking forward to race day.
As well, I have always told myself that I wanted to return to Sydney to run the full marathon there. During my time studying at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, I picked up running towards the end of my stay in Sydney, running distances of 2km to 5km on the university gym treadmill. I have never looked back in terms of my running hobby.
Aiming to become part of an elite group
Now Sydney Marathon is aiming to become part of an elite group of marathons, the World Marathon Majors, within the next two years.
Through a special programme called the Candidacy Club, runners who have registered for the Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS, have the opportunity to claim exclusive benefits when Sydney becomes a World Marathon Major. What better time to run the Sydney Marathon than now?
