Whether you are a seasoned or a first-time runner, you may be interested to know that the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) is holding a series of talks and running clinics to prepare participants for race day.
The upcoming sessions are as follows.
1. Talks by Coached
These sessions are held in conjunction with the SCMS official coach, Coached – a boutique fitness company that was founded by former New Zealand professional triathlete Ben Pulham.
Preventing common injuries
12 October 7-9pm & 15 October 10am-noon
Conducted by podiatrist Tim Maiden, together with Ben, this talk will bring you through the common injuries that runners experience and teach you how to prevent these and run injury free.
2. Running Clinics by Coached
These are physical sessions by Coach Ben that will bring you back to the techniques and basics of running.
Kallang Practice Track
Takes place 8th October @ 10am-12noon & 5pm-7pm
Clementi Stadium
Takes place 12 November @ Clementi Stadium, 10am-12noon & 5pm-7pm
3. Talks by Sport Singapore
These sessions, organised by Sport Singapore, are to prepare runners for SCMS. Runners can register for these sessions with their Active SG credits.
Back to Basics
24 September 3-5pm
In this talk, Coach Steven Quek, who guided Olympic runner Neo Jie Shi on her Rio journey, will be sharing more about the fundamentals of running and training.
Preparing for a first Marathon
1 October 3-5pm
Lim Kien Mau is an established runner with a personal best of 2 hours 35 minutes and 37 seconds.
In this talk, Lim, together with Steven Quek, will speak about training for Lim’s first Standard Chartered Marathon back in 2006.
How much to Train?
22 October 3-5pm
A graduate student at the National University of Singapore, Emmanuel Tapie is also the IVP (inter varsity polytechnic) record holder of the 10,000m (32 minute and 42 seconds).
He will share in this talk, more about how he juggles his training together with his PhD studies and how he broke the record.
Neo’s Journey to Rio
4 November 7.30-9.30pm
Many will know Neo Jie Shi as the Olympic marathoner who had recently represented Singapore this year.
She will be giving a talk reflecting back on her Olympic journey, tracing her dilemma such as whether to train full-time for the Olympics Marathon, to prepare for the biggest race of her life as well as training with Coach Steven Quek and meeting his targets.
Counting Down
11 November 7.30-9.30pm
With three weeks to go till race day, this talk will highlight the things that can go wrong on race day and what targets you should set for the race in order to stay realistic.
